Lu Xun's evaluation of The Journey to the West is as follows:
Mr. Lu Xun once commented on The Journey to the West: "All gods and demons have human feelings, and the refined charm is also sophisticated." When I was young, I watched the TV series, but I only felt that the characters were vivid and the story was tortuous. The master and the apprentice were very happy to kill the demon. When I grew up, I read the original, only to find that although it is a fairy tale, it is full of sophisticated knowledge.
For example, in Sha Wujing, many people are short of talents, but in fact, they just use their talents in the wrong place and fail to find their own position. There are many people who like Friar Sand in The Journey to the West, and they all think that he is a "warm man": he is steady and heavy, and he is not as unruly as the big brother the Monkey King, nor as slick and sophisticated as Pig Bajie.
Main line of Journey to the West:
The whole book mainly describes the story that after the Monkey King was born and caused havoc in the Heavenly Palace, he met the Tang Priest, Pig Bajie, Friar Sand and Bai Longma, went west to learn Buddhist scriptures, went through hardships and dangers along the way, experienced eighty-one difficult, finally arrived in the Western Heaven to meet the Tathagata Buddha, and finally the five saints came true. The novel is based on the historical event of "Tang priest learning from the scriptures" and deeply depicts the social reality of Ming Dynasty through the author's artistic processing.
