Forrest Gump was born in a small city in southern Alabama and lived alone with his mother. Because of his bent back, he needed to install orthopedic braces on his legs since he was a child. Forrest Gump's IQ is only 75, and he can only attend special schools for mentally retarded children according to the admission criteria, which makes Forrest Gump look so different from his peers. Fortunately, Forrest Gump has a mother who loves him. She knows that Forrest Gump has all kinds of defects, but she has ardent expectations for Forrest Gump, hoping that he will receive a normal education and live a life like others. Forrest Gump has an extraordinary talent for sports, which gradually emerged in his growth process, and enabled him to go to college, make contributions in the Vietnam War, join the national table tennis team, and save a sum of money for him to start a shrimp business to fulfill his promise to his dead comrades. Although Forrest Gump's IQ is low, he is simple, kind and firm. The films adapted from Forrest Gump's novels are all stories about Forrest Gump's protagonist, but the films pay more attention to the beginning of the novel, and the chapter 1 1 changed the ending that Forrest Gump's shrimp farming company finally became a street monopoly. The film begins with a feather falling at the foot of Forrest Gump sitting at the bus stop in Savannah, Georgia. Forrest Gump picked up the feather, put it in the book Curious George, and then told his story to a lady sitting next to him. In his narrative, the audience at the bus stop often changes, and everyone shows different attitudes, from suspicion and indifference to rapt worship.
On his first day of school, he met a girl named Jenny, whose life is sometimes parallel to Forrest Gump's. One day after school, he was threatened by a group of bullies because of his leg brace. Jenny told him to run, and he did, losing his leg brace in the process. Abandoning his leg brace, his ability to run at lightning speed won him a football scholarship and entered the university. He was so good at football that he became the best player in America and met John F. Kennedy.
After graduating from college, he joined the army and was sent to Vietnam. In boot camp, Forrest Gump and a man named Buba (Mykelti Williamson) became good friends, and Buba persuaded Forrest Gump to join him in shrimp fishing after the war. After the boot camp, Bubba and Forrest were assigned to the same platoon. After arriving in Vietnam, Forrest met his commander, Captain dan taylor (gary sinise). Captain Dan came from a military family and lost an ancestor in every American war. Later, while patrolling, Forrest Gump's platoon was attacked. Although forest saved many people, including Lieutenant Dan, whose leg was seriously injured and later amputated, Bubba was killed in the operation. Forrest Gump was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic deeds and met lyndon johnson at the award ceremony.
When Forrest Gump recovered from being shot in the hip, he discovered his incredible ping-pong ability, eventually gained popularity and became a celebrity, and later played ping-pong in China. After meeting abbie hoffman at an anti-war rally in Washington, D.C., Forrest Gump reunited with Jenny, who has been living a hippie counterculture life. He also met Lieutenant Dan, who had become a bitter alcoholic and felt destined to die in Vietnam. Forrest Gump and Dan celebrated New Year's Eve together. At first, Dan was hostile to Forrest Gump and used Forrest Gump as a means to obtain alcohol. When forest told him and Bubba planned to buy a shrimp boat, Dan laughed at forest and sarcastically promised that he would be the first mate on the boat. However, Dan later found empathy with the fact that Forrest Gump had been discriminated against in the past, because he thought his IQ was low and compared it to his own disability experience.
Forrest endorsed a company that made table tennis rackets, and earned $25,000 for himself. He used the money to buy a shrimp boat and fulfilled his promise to Bubba. Captain Dan came back to fulfill his earlier promise and became the first mate on board. Forrest and Lieutenant Dan didn't catch much shrimp at first. During Hurricane Carmen, both of them stayed in the middle of the sea with the boat-due to fate, their boat was the only shrimp boat that survived. Lack of competition helps Lieutenant Dan and forest's catch turn into a lot of shrimp. Lieutenant Dan invested the money in "some kind of fruit company", and forest was financially guaranteed for the rest of his life. Forrest Gump named his company Bubagan, which inspired a real shrimp restaurant. After returning home, Forrest Gump found that his mother had cancer and later died.
One day, Jenny came back to visit Forrest Gump and Forrest Gump proposed to her. She refused, although she felt it necessary to prove her love for him by sleeping with him. She left early the next morning. Forrest Gump had a whim and decided to go running. Seemingly capricious, he decided to continue to run around the country several times in about three and a half years to become famous. During his running, Forrest inadvertently inspired two independent entrepreneurs to create smiling faces/"Have a nice day" T-shirts and "Shit happens" bumper stickers.
Today, Forrest Gump revealed that he was waiting at the bus stop because he received a letter from Jenny, who saw him running on TV and asked him to visit her. Once he is reunited with Jenny, Forrest Gump discovers that she has a young son, among whom Forrest Gump is the father. Jenny told Forrest Gump that she was infected with the virus (probably AIDS, but it was never specified). The three of them moved back to Greenville, Alabama. Jenny and Forrest finally got married, and Captain Dan came to the wedding with a prosthetic leg and two legs. However, Jenny died soon after.
The film starts with Forrest Gump's first day of school, and his father and son are waiting for the school bus to end. Open the book his son brought to school, and you can see the white feather at the beginning of the movie falling from the page. When the bus left, white feathers were blown into the sky by the breeze.

Although on the surface, Forrest Gump doesn't seem to know everything around him, the audience will think that he knows enough and the rest are redundant details. Roger ebert gave an example. Jenny told Forrest Gump, "You don't know what love is." [5]
On Jenny's grave, Forrest Gump pondered whether life was dominated by a predetermined fate, as his mother said on her deathbed, or a series of meaningless accidents, as his Vietnamese commander firmly believed. He concluded, "Maybe both, maybe both happen at the same time." The feathers at both ends of the film may represent this idea-it floats freely in the breeze, but it will inevitably float back in the end.
People have noticed that although Forrest Gump follows a very conservative lifestyle, Jenny's life is full of anti-cultural hugs, including drug abuse and anti-war gatherings, and their final marriage may be a half-joking reconciliation. [5]
Other critics believe that this film predicted the 1994 Republican Revolution and used the image of Forrest Gump to publicize the traditional and conservative values that Forrest Gump insisted on. [6]

The archive film is used, and with the help of technologies such as chroma key, distortion, deformation and rotating mirror, Tom Hanks is integrated into it. This feat was awarded the Oscar for Best Visual Effect.
Actor gary sinise's leg was removed by wrapping his leg with blue fabric after his character was amputated, which later facilitated the "roto-paint" team to draw his leg from each frame. Once, when he hoisted himself into a wheelchair, his "lost" leg was used for support.
Dick cavett played himself in the1970s, using cosmetics to make him look much younger than the critics in the movies. Therefore, Cavite is the only famous figure in this film who really plays himself, not through the archival lens.

Forrest Gump is based on winston groom's 1986 novel. Both films revolve around the role of Forrest Gump. However, the film mainly focuses on the first eleven chapters of the novel, and then jumps to the end of the novel, establishing Bubba Gump's shrimp catching and meeting with Little Gump. In addition to skipping some parts of the novel, the film also added several aspects of Forrest Gump's life that did not appear in the novel, such as his need for leg braces when he was a child and his running all over the country.
Forrest Gump's core character and personality have also changed from the novel. Among other things, he is a scholar-when he played football in college, he failed in craft and physical education, but he got full marks in the advanced physics class that his coach signed up for to meet his college requirements.

In Tom Hanks's words, "This film is non-political and therefore non-judgmental". Nevertheless, in 1994, CNN's crossfire debated whether the film promoted conservative values or accused/kloc-0 of the anti-cultural movement in the 1960s. The film received most positive comments when it was released. roger ebert said, "eric roth's script has the complexity of modern novels ... [Hanks]' performance is an amazing balance between comedy and sadness. In a story full of laughter and calm truth ... what a magical movie." [7] However, the film was strongly opposed by several major critics, including The New Yorker and Entertainment Weekly, who said that the film "simplified the noise of the past decades into a virtual reality theme park: a baby-boomer Disney America. [8] As of June, 2008, this film got a "fresh" rating of 72% in rotten tomatoes. [9]
However, for the audience, this film is usually regarded as a polarized film. In 2004, Entertainment Weekly wrote, "Nearly ten years after it made huge profits and swept the Oscar, Robert Zemeckis's ode to 20th century America is still one of the clearest boundaries in the film. Half of people think it is a work of art of popular melodrama, while others praise it as sweet as a box of chocolates. " [10] This movie also ranked 76th on the list of 100 American movies in AFI history in 2007.
Although the film emphasizes that "the power of memory and the narrative of memory create a subjective connection with the past" and explains that "social memory plays a powerful role in building the concept of a country", it also "creates a kind of restored memory of that period [11960s] so that it can be integrated into the traditional national narrative" and "therefore imagines the United States as a virtual country whose historical debts have been forgiven.
