This sentence first came from "Warring States Policy·Zhao Ceyi": "Yu Rang fled to the mountains and said: Sigh! A scholar will die for a confidant, and a woman will look good for someone who pleases herself. I will repay the Zhi clan. "That's right." Later, Sima Qian also said in "Report on Ren An": "A scholar is for those who know themselves, and a woman is for those who please themselves." This sentence has been passed down to this day.

Yurang was a native of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and served as a retainer in the family of Jin's minister Zhiyao. In 453 BC, the Zhao family of Jin State, together with the Han family and the Wei family, defeated the Zhi family in Jinyang. The leader of the Zhi family, Zhi Boyao, was killed, the entire clan was wiped out, the land was divided, and his head was made into wine by Zhao Xiangzi. device use.

Yu Rang fled to the mountains. He missed Zhibo's kindness in knowing him and resented Zhao Xiangzi for making Zhibo's head into lacquerware to serve wine. He vowed to avenge Zhibo and assassinate Zhao Xiangzi.

So, he changed his name, disguised himself as a person who had been tortured, and entered Zhao Xiang's womb to repair the toilet. He carried a dagger and waited for an opportunity to stab Zhao Xiangzi. Zhao Xiangzi went to the toilet. His heart was palpitating. He questioned the person who was repairing the toilet and found a dagger. Only then did he know that it was an assassin. When Yu Rang was interrogated, he said bluntly: "I want to avenge Zhi Bo!" The guards were about to kill him, but Xiangzi said: "Yu Rang is a righteous man. I will just avoid him carefully in the future. Besides, Zhi Bo died after his death." He has no heir, and his retainers want to avenge him. He is a wise man in the world." Finally, he let Yurang go.

Yu Rang was unwilling to give in. In order to realize his wish to avenge Zhibo, he applied paint on his body, making his skin rotten like leprosy, making his appearance unrecognizable; he also swallowed charcoal fire to make his appearance unrecognizable. After his voice became hoarse, he started begging on the streets. Even his wife doesn't recognize him anymore. When he met a friend on the road, he recognized him and said, "Aren't you Yurang?" He replied, "It's me." The friend said with tears, "With your talents, if you devote yourself to serving Zhao Xiangzi, Xiangzi will definitely love you." Isn't it easy for you to wait for an opportunity to assassinate him? "Yu Rang said, "After serving someone else, you want to kill him. This is to serve the monarch with a different intention. I feel ashamed."

Yurang figured out the time and route of Zhao Xiangzi's trip. On the day when Zhao Xiangzi was going out, he laid an ambush under the bridge in advance. When Zhao Xiangzi was crossing the bridge, his horse was suddenly frightened. He guessed that someone was assassinating him, probably Yu Rang again. I ordered my men to investigate, and it turned out to be true. Zhao Xiangzi asked Yurang: "I heard that you once served the Fan family and the Zhonghang family, and Zhibo destroyed them all. However, you did not avenge the Fan family and the Zhonghang family. Instead, you acted as Zhibo's retainer. Now that Zhibo is dead, why are you so eager to avenge him?" Yurang said, "I did serve the Fan family and the Zhongxing family, but they treated me no differently than ordinary people, so I use ordinary words. As for Zhi Bo, he treated me like a scholar, so I repaid him like a scholar." Zhao Xiangzi was very moved, but felt that he could no longer let Yu Rang go, so he ordered him to let him go. Soldiers surrounded him.

Yurang knew that there was no hope of survival and could not fulfill his vow to assassinate Zhao Xiangzi, so he asked Zhao Xiangzi to take off one piece of his clothes so that he could symbolically assassinate him. Zhao Xiangzi complied with his request and took off his clothes to give to Yurang. Yurang pulled out his sword, picked it up and stabbed it many times. He looked up to the sky and shouted, "I, Yurang, have finally avenged Zhibo!" Fu Jian commits suicide.

The story of Yu Rang spread, and all the people with lofty ideals and benevolence in Zhao State were moved by his spirit and wept for him.
