Different from the traditional definition, the knowledge defined here is: information that changes cognition or action. The information here not only comes from books, it can also be obtained from people, things or the Internet.
Knowledge management plays the role of a catalyst in the process of information transformation - accelerating the entire process.
Why is it defined this way?
First, the learning subject has changed
It seems like it is just a change of definition, but it is essentially a change in the learning subject. From children's learning to adult learning, the learning subject transforms from book knowledge to himself.
From a utilitarian point of view, learning knowledge in school is more about successfully passing the exam; so what is the purpose of learning in the workplace?
The answer is simple: solve the problem.
For example, when a new product is launched, your boss asks you to write a copy, but you have never written one before. So on the weekend, you read some copywriting books, select methods that are helpful to you in writing product copywriting, and study them carefully.
The biggest feature of this method is that it crosses the limitations of disciplines. In the past, when I studied copywriting, I might study the optimization of vocabulary, paragraphs, or logic. But if you want to use copywriting to increase consumers' desire to buy, you may need to study subjects such as "psychology, graphic design, marketing, or communication" knowledge.
Second, the standard of learning has been improved
Teacher Xiao Qiushui has shared several levels of learning knowledge: understanding → mastering → proficiency → mastery. And if you just regard learning knowledge as a simple passive absorption of knowledge, there will be a phenomenon of "I have heard many great principles, but I am still confused."
After changing the definition of knowledge to "application", what you pursue will not be confused by the wrong concept of "knowing = being able to use".
Third, knowledge management is just a means
In the business circle, the definition of management is to use smaller costs to obtain greater benefits. The same is true for knowledge management. Learning it is not about learning high-tech software, collecting more information, attaching more labels, or naming folders in a fancy way.
Don’t be too obsessed with these auxiliary means, after all, our purpose is to achieve practicality.
