Five principles:
Principle of combination of intensive and extensive reading: When we conduct English reading training, there are intensive and extensive reading materials to ensure that we not only listen clearly , understand, and imitate and read until you can recite. The materials for extensive listening should be broad, and one should be committed to creating a listening environment that is accessible at any time.
The principle of repetition and persistence: I am afraid that everyone understands this principle. Children master language by listening to adults say the same words over and over again, or by asking adults endless questions and answers over and over again. Adults can only develop a "feeling" by repeatedly stimulating their ears. We know that the new things we learn every day are actually stored in the temporary memory of our brains. Things in temporary memory cannot be retained for a long time, and some can only be retained for a few seconds, and the longest cannot last more than three days. If you do not recycle the things stored in temporary memory and convert them from temporary memory to long-term memory, the brain will automatically clear them (the brain is also very smart, it knows to "keep something in mind"). Leave nothing behind!"). To convert short-term memory into long-term memory, the most effective way is to repeat and stimulate the brain repeatedly. Therefore, you must have the spirit to listen to a piece of material, watch a movie, and imitate a speech repeatedly and tirelessly. And for most of us, continuity is especially important. When we say persistence, we have two meanings. First, each listening practice must last for a certain period of time, which refers to a single practice time, such as 30 minutes each time; second, learning must be continuous for a certain length of time, such as one or two years. Even longer, let learning English become a habit until you completely master it or be able to use it. For this reason, we need to think about the growth process of trees. When a big tree is in its sapling stage, we need to constantly water it to allow it to absorb and grow. And finally one day, you don't have to water it, it can absorb the nutrients it needs from nature, and at this stage it can grow into a towering tree.
The principle of imitating aloud: Imitation is a necessary means for learning English. But in the past, most people did not have a good environment or did not master the essentials of imitation. The key to imitation is feeling. Listening materials can be used as objects of imitation. You can also use celebrity speech materials, standard pronunciation radio speeches, news clips, etc. as imitation materials. When imitating, try to feel the speaker's tone, intonation, and word choice. If possible, do some understanding of the background material of the imitation object to deepen your understanding and grasp of the imitation material. Imitation must be made out loud, and imitation takes a certain amount of time. Don't be afraid of trouble. When you really carefully choose some listening materials to imitate and imitate them to a realistic level, the foundation of your listening and pronunciation will be basically laid. This will be of great help to your future English learning. At the same time, It is also a major principle for rapid improvement of listening.
The principle of grading and quantification: Many people will say that the listening learning method is very good, but I can’t understand it. This is mainly because the materials I listen to are not screened, that is, there is no grading. . Children's listening materials do not need to be graded, as this is determined by their physiological abilities. Children have a natural super ability to absorb, so they can absorb whatever is given to them. But adults are different. Their physiological structure has basically been finalized. English is a high-frequency sound language, while Chinese is characterized by "images" and "forms". The difference between the two languages ??has created certain obstacles for Chinese people to learn the language. The only way to break through this obstacle is to listen more, which I call "sun-listening". But listening more does not mean listening blindly, but it should be graded according to your own situation, from easy to difficult, and gradually transition to understanding various levels of speech materials. There is a very interesting philosophical saying: "Jump and get an apple" - every time you make a small effort, you will get a small gain. If the apple is too high, you won't be able to pick it no matter how hard you jump. It's just a waste of energy. You can’t expect to get a full harvest from just one pick. This statement is not unreasonable. Vogotsgy, an educational psychologist from the former Soviet Union, believed that the main body of learning content should be within the range of the learner's experience, and that new knowledge can only come from the "zone of proximal development", that is, at the edge of the original knowledge. Gradually expand the extension. The arm's reach represents your original knowledge area, and the extended part is what you can reach with a "jump". It turns out that when we were listening to English in college, we were blindly playing cool, holding a radio and desperately listening to the BBC and VOA standard English that we thought were very profound at the time. On the surface, we were listening, but in fact the effect was not obvious. The main reason was that we were far away from ourselves. The level is too far to reach. Later, I changed to understand VOA's slow English first. Not only did I no longer find it difficult, but I also naturally understood standard English. In fact, this theory is the same as starting with simple reading. By concentrating on the easy parts, and then gradually expanding the results, you will learn more and faster. Therefore, the principle of listening materials must be graded, from easy to difficult, gradually transitioning, and improving unconsciously.
Quantification is quantitative training based on listening grading. The so-called quantity refers to quantity. When it comes to listening specifically, it refers to tape hours, that is, how many tapes or hours of audio materials you have listened to, such as listening to tapes, listening to the radio, watching TV, watching movies, listening to various lectures, etc. . Try to seize the opportunity to practice listening. Until the ears can feel "cocoons". Each different level requires a certain amount of support to achieve learning accumulation and breakthroughs. This amount varies from person to person, and the difficulty factor also varies from person to person. But the basic principle is that when there is basically no problem listening to this level of content and you have reached a relatively proficient level, you should make a timely transition to the next level. If you feel difficult during the listening material training at the next level, you can return to the previous level to consolidate and improve. Sometimes it is even necessary to listen to two levels of content together, gradually transitioning, based on the principle that it does not sound very difficult, and based on the basic starting point of being interested in listening and being able to listen, and through the accumulation of quantity to achieve a consolidated effect.
