Only women and villains are difficult to raise?
In the land of Qilu more than two thousand years ago, an old man named Confucius hurried on with a group of disciples. In the dusty sky, he suddenly saw a woman on the roadside. The woman had a miserable face and a child in her arms. Master Kong stared at it for a long time, thoughtfully. Then, he looked up to the sky and sighed and said something.
More than two thousand years have passed, and this sentence has been passed down. Today, the most popular and probably the most authoritative version is "Only women and villains are difficult to raise." This sentence can be found in "The Analects of Confucius". This book is the sayings of the sage Confucius. Regardless of whether his disciples relied on the memory in their heads when writing, or they took notes verbatim in front of Confucius. In short, , this debt of contempt for the majority of female comrades is settled by Kong Shengren, even if he will never be able to pay it back.
However, I want to say that Confucius was wronged. I say this with evidence.
First of all, the Book of Songs was compiled by Confucius. Well, if we read the Book of Songs, we can easily find that it is simply a hymn for women. There are 305 poems in the "Book of Songs". The first sentence of the first poem praises women: "Guan Guan Jiujiu, on the continent of the river. A graceful lady, a gentleman is fond of fighting." There are too many wives in the "Book of Songs" There are many poems praising women. These women are either quiet and peaceful, or naughty and lively; all of them love labor, all of them love life, and all of them dare to pursue love. Among the women in "The Book of Songs", there are no women who are disgusting and no women who are looked down upon; all of them are so lovely and all of them are so kind. Healthy, kind, gentle and shy, the girl's external beauty and inner beauty complement each other. The true beauty of Eastern women can be seen in the Book of Songs. Just imagine, as the chief editor of "The Book of Songs", if Confucius did not respect women, would he have edited such a beautiful poem?
Secondly, Confucius's "Book of Rites" also proves his respect for women. The wedding ceremony in "Book of Rites? Hunyi" is grand and standardized. On the wedding day, the groom must first come to the door to welcome the bride in person; second, the groom must drive the bride in person and turn it around three times before handing it over to the driver; third, the groom must give a gift before the bride enters the door; fourth, the bride and groom have finished drinking. After drinking together, the relationship between husband and wife becomes "equal in dignity and in love with each other". The relationship of "husband and wife share the same dignity" starts from the first day of marriage.
Thirdly, the principle of husband-wife relationship advocated by Confucius is "a wife who is harmonious is like a drum, harp, and harp." This is a verse from the Book of Songs. Confucius promoted it as the criterion for the relationship between husband and wife. "The way of a gentleman is, for example, if you travel far, you will always be close to yourself; if you climb high, you will humble yourself. "Poetry" says: 'A wife who is harmonious is like a drum, harp, and harp.'" ("The Book of Rites: Doctrine of the Mean") This passage contains the following meaning: a gentleman must start with small things to do big things; a gentleman must start with managing the world by managing the family; and managing the family must start by handling the relationship between husband and wife.
Fourth, Confucius also educated the king on respecting women. When Duke Ai of Lu asked Confucius for advice on how to govern a country, he thought it was too grand for ancient saint leaders to wear the crowns they used to worship heaven and earth when marrying their wives. Confucius immediately told him solemnly that the core of the ancient sage kings' governance was "loving people" - "In ancient times, loving people was the most important thing in governing." Respecting people in the world starts with respecting one's wife, and loving people in the world must start with loving one's wife. The king's respect for his wife is not a personal matter but a political matter for governing the world. Therefore, it is appropriate to wear the crown worn when offering sacrifices to heaven and earth when marrying your wife. In the classics left by Confucius, all discussions involving the relationship between husband and wife are related to state affairs and world affairs. To handle national affairs and world affairs well, we must start from handling the relationship between husband and wife. Peace in the world must begin with peace in the family, and peace in the family must begin with harmony between husband and wife. Respecting your wife is a moral standard that both the emperor and the common people must abide by.
In short, from the above-mentioned performance of Kong Shengren, we can see that he first respected unmarried girls, secondly advocated that "husbands and wives have the same dignity and inferiority", and thirdly advocated the relationship between husband and wife "like drums and harps". The fourth is to preach that loving everyone in the world starts with loving your wife. There is no such thing as inequality between men and women. So, how could he say something like "Only women and villains are difficult to raise", which has made countless female compatriots today resentful? This requires us to talk about the three major changes that Confucius’ thought of “equal dignity for men and women” experienced in Chinese history.
These three changes were all caused by celebrities in Chinese history.
The first is Han Feizi, who lived with Confucius during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. This Han Feizi may have openly opposed "parents becoming the head of the family" because of excessive male hormone secretion. In his article "Yangquan", he put forward the idea that "there are no two nobles in a family": "There are two nobles in a family, and their work is useless. When a husband and wife are in power, they are at a loss." Han Feizi means that in a family, both parents are If you are noble, nothing will be accomplished; if the husband and wife are the same as the head of the family, the children will be at a loss.
In fact, "the family has no two nobles" also serves the "country has no two nobles". The purpose of opposing "parents are the head of the family" is to establish the absolute authority of the king;
