Original text: Yao succeeded Shun in seventy years, and when he was old in twenty years, he ordered Shun to take charge of the emperor's affairs and recommended him to heaven. Yao died in the twenty-eighth year after he ascended the throne. The people mourned as if they had lost their parents. For three years, there was no music in the four quarters to think of Yao. Yao knew that his son Danzhu was not worthy enough to confer power on the world, so he gave it to Shun. Give it to Shun, and the world will benefit from it, and Danzhu will be sick; grant Danzhu, and the world will be sick, and Danzhu will benefit from it. Yao said, "In the end, the disease of the world will not be used to benefit one person", so he died and gave Shun the rule of the world. Yao died, and after three years of mourning, Shun sent Bi Danzhu to the south of Nanhe. The princes who went to the pilgrimage did not praise Danzhu but welcomed Shun; those who were in prison did not praise Danzhu but praised Shun; those who sang songs praised Shun instead of singing Danzhu. Shun said "Heaven", and after that, China became emperor and became Emperor Shun.

If the authority is given to Shun, everyone in the world will benefit and only Danzhu will be disadvantaged; if the authority is given to Danzhu, everyone in the world will suffer and only Danzhu will benefit. Yao said: "After all, I can't make the world suffer and only Danzhu benefit." So he finally passed the world to Shun. After Yao's death, after three years of mourning, Shun abdicated the throne to Danzhu and took refuge on the south bank of the Nanhe River. The princes who came to have an audience came to see Shun instead of Zhu Dan; those who wanted to file lawsuits came to Shun instead of Danzhu; those who praised merit did not go to Danzhu but to praise Shun. Shun said, "This is God's will." Then he arrived in Kyoto and ascended to the throne of Emperor Shun. This was Emperor Shun.
Su Yuan said: Yao was already very old and wanted to select talented people but was not ordered to fulfill his duties. The four mountains recommended Shun, and Yao tried him. Shun lived up to Yao and governed the world in an orderly manner. Yao abdicated and passed the throne to Shun. Shun retired after his success, humbly abdicated the throne, and retired to the south bank, where he could not be deceived by fame, wealth, and gain. The emperors of Yao and Shun served as officials for the benefit of the people of the world, and tried their best to govern the world. They abdicated the throne without seeking fame and fortune. If they were officials, they were willing to pursue the wise kings of Yao and Shun, and regarded the sufferings of the people of the world as their own sufferings and took pleasure in them. Being happy for oneself is actually a blessing for the common people. Nowadays, many officials are driven by profit. They enter the official career in order to seek fame and wealth. They are willing to risk the pain of going to jail. They are doubly guilty of virtue. Their bodies are like earthworms entering a filthy puddle, swimming on the sweet dreams of yellow beams, and they are faint. But I can't help myself. After that, the Dongchuang Incident happened, and I was in panic all day long, feeling all kinds of poisons.
This suffering is the suffering of ice and fire, why suffer!
