The idol of in-laws is usually placed under the bed or bedside where children sleep. Instead of making statues, the in-laws of the family sacrifice only use a porcelain bowl as a censer. Every July, mothers come to worship with their children under 15. Sacrifices include rice, sweet pills, glutinous rice, fish, paper money and paper "grandma's clothes" (shroud for grandma). Sacrifices are increasing year by year, and they are the most abundant when they leave the garden at the age of fifteen, to thank their in-laws for their kindness in keeping their children safe for many years.
Some families worship their in-laws on the seventh day of July every year, but they also worship their in-laws on Lantern Festival and New Year's Eve to show their respect and loyalty to them from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. In addition, if the children at home get measles or smallpox, they should also worship their in-laws and pray for peace.
Some villages in Chaoshan also have in-laws altars, which are attached to some temples in rural areas for villagers to worship for many years. This kind of in-laws altar, or flower master and flower mother, can be seen everywhere, with idols and a special couplet: "My father-in-law is fair and my mother-in-law is very loving". People often go to church every day, especially on the seventh day of July, which is an unprecedented occasion. Good men believe in women, and people are crowded together. It's very lively and fragrant. This shows how high the prestige of in-laws is among the people.
