Thomas Hobbes (Thomas Hobbes, April 5, 1588 - December 4, 1679) was a British politician and philosopher. Born into a pastor's family in Wiltshire, England. He studied at Oxford University in his early years, and later worked as a tutor for nobles and traveled across the European continent. He created a complete system of mechanical materialism, pointing out that the universe is the sum of all extended objects that move mechanically. He proposed the "state of nature" and the theory of the origin of the state, pointing out that the state was formed by people entering into contracts in order to abide by "natural law". It was a man-made robot. He opposed the divine right of kings and advocated autocratic monarchy. He compared the Pope to the devil and the monks to ghosts, but advocated using "state religion" to control the people and maintain "order."
Hobbes's last work was a Latin autobiography published in 1672. At the same time, he also translated the Odyssey into four "crude" English translations, and completed the entire set of "The Odyssey" in 1675. ” and translation of “The Iliad”.
Hobbes contracted a bladder disease in 1679 and died of a subsequent stroke at the age of ninety-two. He was buried in a churchyard in Derbyshire.
