The Battle of Gettysburg was a key battle in the American Civil War, and even became a turning point in the Civil War. The Battle of Gettysburg was a brutal massacre between soldiers from the north and the south, in which 51, people died on both sides. At that time, there were only a few million people in the United States. On November 19th, 1863, four months after the Battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln delivered a speech at the dedication ceremony of the Federal Army Memorial Cemetery in Gettysburg. Nowadays, people praise this speech, and it is even considered as the highest model of English speech. Its manuscript is hidden in the Library of Congress, and its speech is made into a golden inscription and remains in Oxford University. Therefore, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful and poetic articles in American literature. As everyone knows, Lincoln didn't seem to feel good about the effect of this speech at that time, because the speech was too short. When the audience just paid attention to the lecture, Lincoln had finished, and the photographer had not set up a tripod, but Lincoln had turned and sat down. This speech, which has been read for less than three minutes, should have been a political announcement that the victors celebrated their military victory and made it clear to the world. However, judging from the content, it was not militant at all. On the contrary, it was a touching eulogy, praising those who made the final sacrifice and their great ideals and careers. Especially at the end of this speech, Lincoln put forward "that government of the people by the people and for the people shall not be around from the earth", which is his Three People's Principles of "of the people, by the people and for the people".
The reason why there is a connection between Mr. Zhongshan's Three People's Principles and Lincoln's Three People's Principles is not inferred out of thin air, but actually comes from Mr. Zhongshan's own explanation. On March 6, 1921, Mr. Zhongshan delivered a speech in the special office of the Kuomintang headquarters in China, that is, "Specific Measures of the Three People's Principles", in which he put forward: "The Three People's Principles based on brotherhood are obtained by combining the theories of ancient and modern China and foreign countries in response to the trend of the world. Even the former American President Lincoln's fundamentalism is in line with the Brothers' Three People's Principles. Its original text is The govenment of the people, by thepeople, and forthe people. Because there is no proper translation, my brother translated it as "owned by the people", "ruled by the people" and "enjoyed by the people". Ofthe people is forthe people, by the people is for the people and for the people is for the people. His doctrine of "of the people", "of the people" and "for the people" is the brotherly doctrine of "nationality", "civil rights" and "people's livelihood". It can be seen that the prosperity of the United States at the end of today is due to the philosophy of the sages. The Brothers' Three People's Principles have won my heart before overseas. Brother, when I was overseas, foreigners didn't know what the Three People's Principles were and came to ask me. At that time, my brother had no proper translation to answer him, so he had to quote Lincoln Doctrine to tell him, and then outsiders would understand my Doctrine. From this, we can see that the Three People's Principles of Brothers not only have a history, but also cater to the modern trend. "
on December 7, 1921, Mr. Zhongshan gave a speech on "The Three People's Principles as a Tool for Creating a New World" at the 76th group welcoming meeting of Guilin's military and political circles, and he clearly pointed out: "The Three People's Principles are nationalism, civil rights and people's livelihood. These three principles are completely interlinked with the three meanings of "owned by the people", "ruled by the people" and "enjoyed by the people" mentioned by President Lincoln of the United States. What the people mean is nationalism. Why should our revolutionary party advocate nationalism? Because the Qing dynasty was autocratic for more than 2 years, we Han people suffered from the pain of national subjugation, and later were oppressed by the world trend, and I am afraid we will be extinct. Therefore, a few people came out to advocate and preach to get rid of autocratic aliens. Later, when the whole country realized it, the Manchu Dynasty, which conquered China, was overthrown, and China's sovereignty was taken back to the Han people. China territory was completely owned by the Han people. The success of the revolution ten years ago was the success of nationalism. So "nationalism" means the same as "owned by the people". After the success of the revolution, China's land and sovereignty have been taken back from the hands of the Manchu emperor to the hands of the people of China. But we people, in the name of political sovereignty, can't govern the country without political sovereignty. Only when political sovereignty is really in the hands of the people can we govern the country, which is called people's rule. This principle of achieving people's rule is called democracy. As for the people's livelihood, it is realized by human thought. Because we have land and sovereignty, it is natural to think of a complete way to enjoy it, in order to achieve complete happiness in life. How to enjoy happiness in life is called people's livelihood. Therefore, "owned by the people", "ruled by the people" and "enjoyed by the people" are the three people's principles advocated by this president throughout his life.
When you think about it carefully, great minds think alike. The Three People's Principles put forward by Mr. Sun Yat-sen based on China's national conditions at that time are so consistent with those put forward by President Lincoln based on American historical traditions. Mr. Sun Yat-sen's explanation of President Lincoln's Three People's Principles is not at all irrelevant, but it makes people feel that Mr. Sun Yat-sen's political wisdom and world vision. Mr. Sun Yat-sen once said: "The world trend is vast, and those who follow it prosper, and those who go against it die." Both Lincoln's Three People's Principles and Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Three People's Principles are in line with the historical trend, and China should continue along this road. In fact, today's formulation of socialism with China characteristics and the connotation of the Three People's Principles put forward by these two people have the same effect, but the emphasis is different.
