When you and I were on a blind date and got married, you were far away in a foreign country, just like a rabbit attached to a girl, and I was still lonely and helpless. Rabbit silk may prosper or wither, and couples should also have a time to stay together. Near the house surrounded by bamboo forest, there is a small pond covered with decaying grass, and the cicadas are chirping. Last night, God diligently dropped a light rain. Today, the wandering people can enjoy a day of refreshing coolness.

The modest bamboo has low-headed leaves;

The proud plum has no two-sided branches.

——Written by Zheng Xie

Notes Zheng Xie (1693-1765): Banqiao, a native of Xinghua, Jiangsu. His family was poor when he was young, but he was intelligent, studious, and wild in nature. In the first year of Qianlong's reign, he became a Jinshi and served as magistrate of Fan County and Weixian County in Shandong Province. Later, he offended a powerful official when he asked for aid to farmers. Banqiao was accomplished in poetry, calligraphy and painting, and was known as the "Three Wonders" and one of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou".

Banqiao was good at writing orchids and bamboos, and painted with long cursive script, developing traditional Chinese ink, bamboo and orchid paintings to a new stage. Today, there are "The Complete Works of Banqiao" and various calligraphy and paintings handed down to the world.

One of the remarkable features of this couplet is its use of symbolism. "Symbol" is not only an artistic technique that uses a certain perception or imaginary image to mark or imply some invisible meaning, but also refers to a way of connecting literary and artistic works with the viewer. The establishment of symbolic connections is based on the consistency of structural features, rather than seeking a complete qualitative fit. For example, pine trees have different qualities with pride, and bamboo has different qualities with upright personality. However, the majestic and majestic image of pine trees is similar to the characteristics of pride, and the straight and soaring shape of bamboo corresponds to the structural characteristics of upright personality, so people think Pine trees are often used to symbolize pride, and bamboo is used to symbolize upright personality. Therefore, symbolism is a way of contacting heterogeneous and isomorphic people. The ancients were most adept at using symbolic techniques to personify things in their literary and artistic works to praise or denounce them, such as praising bamboo for its humility, plum blossoms for their pride, orchids for their noble demeanor, etc.

Zheng Banqiao loved and respected bamboo all his life; he painted about bamboo and wrote poems about bamboo. Zheng Banqiao was wild and unruly, proud and upright, so he often chanted and painted bamboo to encourage others and himself. For example, "I am lying in the Yazhai and listening to the rustling bamboos, which is suspected to be the sound of suffering among the people. I am a small official in Caozhou County, and I always care about each branch and leaf." ("Bamboo Painting in the Weixian County Office, Presented to the Nianbo Bao Dazhong Chengkuo") "Stick to the green mountains and never let go, the roots are still in the broken rocks. After thousands of blows, they are still strong, regardless of the east, west, north, and south winds." ("Bamboo and Stone") "Poetry on Paintings") Plum blossoms, orchids, bamboos, and pine trees are often the subjects of poets and painters' works, and of course Zheng Banqiao wrote more. The above couplet also reflects Zheng Banqiao's consistent style of poetry, calligraphy and painting, and also reflects Zheng's personality.

The first couplet chants bamboo. Bamboo has knots in the hollow, and its leaves grow downward in pairs relative to each other, like the character "一", so it is said to be "humbly" and "bowed down". "Bowing its head and humbly" not only describes the external natural state of bamboo, but also It refers to the inner spiritual character of a person. The two are different but have the same structure and correspond to each other; the second couplet praises plum blossoms. Plum blossoms are not afraid of frost and bloom in the wind and cold, so they are called plum blossoms. Moreover, plum blossoms also have another characteristic. Their flowers are always blooming on the sunny side of the branches, always facing upwards, and never facing downwards on the shady side. This is not necessarily true for flowers (for example, peach blossoms have flowers that bloom downward, so they are criticized as "frivolous"). Therefore, it is said that "there are no two-faced branches". This image characteristic of Mei is heterogeneous and isomorphic with the upright personality that people praise for not bowing to evil forces and being consistent on the outside. Although the couplet is about chanting bamboos and praising plum blossoms, it actually portrays others and oneself. The first couplet talks about the spirit of scholarship, and the second couplet talks about the character of life. Zheng Banqiao was academically outstanding in poetry, calligraphy and painting, and was proud and upright as a person. Didn't future generations see the spirit of bamboo and the style of plum in him? 5. Poems describing bamboo

Bamboo is the embodiment of a gentleman, and is the gentleman among the "Four Gentlemen".

Bamboo has seven virtues:

Bamboo has a straight body and would rather break than bend; this is called uprightness.

Although bamboo has knots, it does not stop; it is called striving forward.

The outside of the bamboo is straight and hollow, and the mind is like a valley; this is called an open mind.

Bamboo has flowers but does not bloom, and its face is plain; this is called simplicity.

Bamboo is transcendent and independent, standing tall against the sky and the earth; it is called Zhuoer.

Although bamboo is called outstanding, it is not like pine; it is called good group.

Zhu Zaiwen has been handed down from generation to generation, and he works hard without complaining; this is called responsibility.

Bamboo and couplets

●The reeds on the wall are top-heavy and shallow-rooted.

Bamboo shoots in the mountains have sharp mouths and thick skins and hollow bellies.

●Bending and stretching, even though a thousand houses are covered with snow, I am still standing straight;

It’s cool and unrestrained, so it doesn’t matter if the wind blows from all directions.

●Jin Jie is born thin, and Gao Cun becomes stronger with age;

The green bamboos have aspirations, and the plum dragons have a beautiful heart.

●Bring spring to the heaven and earth, caressing the ancient green forever;

Keeping company with pine plums, cleansing the body and avoiding the cold heart.

●Bamboo shoots emerge For a wall, one section must be higher than the other;

Plum blossoms are inferior to snow, and three points are only three points.

●Through the ages, I will humbly respect this old man;

Jiuzhou Gaojie pays homage to Mr.

●It is appropriate to discuss virtuality and reality with bamboo;

Do not compete with anyone for highness or lowness

●I will humbly respect this old man through the ages;

Kyushu Gaojie pays my respects to Mr.

● Discuss virtuality and reality with bamboo;

Don’t compete with anyone for superiority or inferiority.

●The beauty of the mountains does not age with the spring;

The bamboo branches grow new towards the people.

●The strong ones are born thin;

The tall ones grow old. Get rid of rigidity

●There is integrity before being unearthed

And still have an open mind in the lofty clouds

Demonstrate integrity, although not strong, but upright, tough and upright; not Afraid of severe cold and heat, it will remain green forever. 7. Five-character poem about bamboo

1. "Ode to Dianthus"

Tang Dynasty: Wang Ji

The luxuriant green branches are blooming, and the red flowers are hanging down.

I am always afraid of zero dew and cannot survive.

Sighing and thinking to myself, how can I love you in this life?

Before I was born, who made me cute?

Throw it away and don’t re-expose it. It’s no surprise if you resign it.

Translation: The green branches grow luxuriantly, and there are prosperous and beautiful red flowers hanging down. I often worry that the cold dew will fall and it will not be able to preserve its beautiful life. While sighing at the dianthus, I also thought about myself, is this my true love? Before I came to this world, who was it that inspired me? Let’s put aside such things and let’s not talk about it anymore. Why panic when we follow the changes of nature?

2. "Quatrains"

Yuan Dynasty: Wang Tingyun

The bamboo shadows and poems are thin, and the plum blossoms are fragrant in dreams.

Poor moon tonight, she refuses to go down to the west wing.

Translation: The thin bamboo shadows accompany the poems, and the fragrance of plum blossoms accompanies me in my dreams. It's a pity that my mood is like the moon tonight, which refuses to set in the west wing.

3. "Ode to the Bamboos in the Courtyard"

Tang Dynasty: Lu Taiyi

The bamboos in the Dangxuan are as green as ever and are cold all year round.

A person with a pure heart will see a reward, but the small basket will not become a pole.

Translation: The bamboos outside the window are tall and straight, and their greenness indicates the cold spring of the coming year. The sturdiness of bamboo is appreciated by people because the bamboo shoots have not yet grown into long poles.

4. "Five Odes of Xun Gongyuan·Bitter Bamboo Bridge"

Tang Dynasty: Liu Zongyuan

The dangerous bridge is a secluded path, winding through the sparse forest.

The bursting of flowers divides the bitter festivals, and the gentle and humble embrace.

Look down at the trickling stream and listen to the singing of Xiao Xiao.

On the smoky day under the lake, the mountain birds sing mockingly.

Forgive me that there is no need to use it, but there is more shade to live in.

Translation: The high bridge is connected to the quiet path, which twists and turns through the sparse bamboo forest. Bamboo sprouts from the bamboo shoots, and the green skin surrounds the empty bamboo heart. Bend down to look at the thin stream under the bridge, and look up to listen to the rustling bamboo sounds in the mountains. The sun is setting amid the steaming smoke, and the birds in the mountains are chirping. It was expected that the bitter bamboo could not be used as bamboo cutting at the ferry, but it just provided a green shade for us to rest.

5. "Ying Bamboo in Front of the Eaves"

Southern and Northern Dynasties: Shen Yue

The sprouting sheaves have drooped down, and the leaves have begun to form branches.

The abundant velvet on the shade promotes the separation of the nodes below.

The wind blows and the dew drips, and the moon shines with varying shadows.

I want to be born in a king's house, but I don't want to be in Huachi.

Translation:

When the bamboo stem sprouts, it has already fallen off; as the slender bamboo leaves sprout, young branches slowly grow. A few young bamboos are full of fresh vitality. Because it is in a low place (bottom), the distance between bamboo nodes is relatively close, so it is also described as "promoting joints".

At night, the dewdrops on the bamboo leaves look hazy. Fortunately, there is wind, so the poet lets readers listen to the clear rhyme of the wind blowing on the bamboo leaves and dewdrops dripping on the stairs in the quiet night, which is extremely beautiful. There is a bright moon in the dark blue sky, and the moonlight shines on the bamboo, leaving mottled bamboo shadows in front of the steps.

It should have grown by a pond with fragrant flowers and grass, enjoying the scenery in front of the flowers under the moonlight. Now, in front of the simple eaves of the poet's residence, he spends the quiet morning and dusk with him.
