Lincoln who refused to give up
Perhaps the best example of perseverance is Abraham Lincoln. If you want to know who never gave up, look no further!
Lincoln, who was born impoverished, faced setbacks throughout his life, losing eight times in eight elections. He failed in business twice and even had a mental breakdown. There were many times when he could have given up, but he didn't, and because he didn't give up, he became one of the greatest presidents in American history. Here is Lincoln's resume before he entered the White House:
In 1816, his family was kicked out of their home and he had to work to support them.
In 1818, his mother died.
In 1831, business failed.
In 1832, he ran for state senate but lost!
In 1832, he also lost his job and wanted to go to law school, but couldn't get in.
In 1833, he borrowed money from a friend to start a business, but he went bankrupt at the end of the year. It took him sixteen years to pay off the debt.
In 1834, he ran for state assembly again and won!
In 1835, when he was about to get married after being engaged, his first wife died, so his heart was broken!
