Speaking of Liu, maybe everyone is familiar with it. Everyone knows that he is an e-commerce or Internet tycoon. But do you know what Liu's early entrepreneurship was like? The following is my experience in starting a business in Liu. Welcome to reading. I hope you will like it.
Liu's entrepreneurial experience
Yesterday, Suthichai Yoon, the editor-in-chief of TheNation, the most influential among the young elites in Thailand, invited Liu to talk, which attracted more than 320 entrepreneurs from all over Thailand. Liu has been communicating with them in English and answering their questions.
"What is the secret of JD. The success of COM? "
Start with a small counter in the electronic mall, JD. COM's entrepreneurial story is legendary in the eyes of many young entrepreneurs in Thailand. They want to know what is the most important secret of Liu's success in less than 20 years.
"As long as you insist on doing the right thing, even if there is nothing at present, you will start from scratch and start a successful business." Liu shared his entrepreneurial experience with these entrepreneurs: when he first set foot in e-commerce, there were no customer resources, not even a few stable customers.
At that time, e-commerce had just started, and users were still uneasy about products and services, so Liu personally stayed in front of the computer for 24 hours, answering users' inquiries one by one, and put an alarm clock on the wooden floor when sleeping at night. Every two hours, he is woken up by the alarm clock and responds to the user's message in time after getting up. In this way, in the early days of his business, Liu had been living and eating in the office for four years.
"When starting a business, you can have nothing, but you must have customers in your heart. Do a good job in customer service, there must be opportunities. " Liu told entrepreneurs.
"Has wealth changed you?"
Of course, people are more concerned about Liu's billions of wealth.
An entrepreneur asked Liu: "After 20 14 went public, your worth is estimated to be tens of billions of dollars. Will your life change because of this wealth? "
Liu replied: "Before and after the company went public, in fact, for me personally, my life has not changed much, nor did I choose to go public because of my personal wealth pursuit."
"Although money is a good thing, what is more important than money is that I have 654.38+200,000 brothers and sisters in JD.COM. They are working with me every day to create new value for China's retail and provide service recommendations for more than 900 million Internet users in China. "
"What will you do with your wealth?"
"What will you do with your huge wealth in the future?" Some entrepreneurs asked.
"I will return my wealth to the society. I hope to promote educational equity and give children in poor areas a fair educational opportunity. " Liu told these entrepreneurs, "When I was in middle school, there were 55 students in my class, but only myself and another student were admitted to the university and went to the big city. The remaining 53 people are still in that place. Now they can only do some very ordinary jobs, and life is very difficult, not because they are not smart, but because they have not received fair educational opportunities. "
"How to help Thai fruits sell to China?"
Tropical fruits in Thailand are loved by many tourists from China, but they can only be enjoyed locally in Thailand, and it is difficult to bring them back to China. Facing JD.COM, which is committed to building a retail platform connecting China and Thailand, they want to know how JD.COM will help Thailand's fruits and other agricultural products to be sold to the China market.
"Now more and more people in China like to travel to Thailand. They like the weather, scenery and food here, especially the fruits in Thailand. " Liu told these entrepreneurs, "We will build a purchasing center in Thailand in the future to increase the sales of Thai products and help Thai fruit farmers cultivate their own brands. We helped many farmers in China raise chickens and cultivated the brand "Running Chicken". In supporting agricultural product sellers, JD.COM always insists on leaving enough profits for farmers without making all the money. "
"Why is the express delivery in JD.COM good?"
Thai people who are used to DHL and FEDEX find it hard to understand why there are so many local express delivery companies in China, let alone JD. COM express can be loved by so many consumers in China.
Liu told them, JD. The logistics and distribution business of COM in China is different from the general express delivery company. They often outsource their business and personnel to third-party companies to reduce labor costs, while all logistics and distribution personnel in JD.COM are paid by Jingdong, and their salary level and benefits are higher than those in the same industry.
A more stable life makes the courier brother in JD.COM almost have no mobility. Many courier brothers have worked continuously in a service area for many years, and gradually established a very good trust relationship with many users. When users sign for the express delivery, they will also be invited to come in and wait, sit down and have a rest.
Liu's juvenile story
Liu, born in Suqian City, Jiangsu Province, February 1974, founder, chairman and CEO of Mall, graduated from China Renmin University.
Now, as long as you have an idea, you can get an investment of 30 million dollars, which is really easy. Many people are happy, but don't forget that how much financing you get is not your wealth. How much financing you get, you will have to pay back 10 times and 20 times in the future. The cost of venture capital is the highest in the world.
Ladies and gentlemen, I want to give you a speech in Subei English, but as a result, General Manager Zhang (CEO of Gaoling Capital) came up to speak Chinese, which embarrassed me, so I still speak in Subei dialect.
I asked a friend of Columbia University last night, and I said that I really want to know what you want to hear today. He said that he really wanted to hear about starting a business. I know that starting a business is very popular recently, and I think many students here today have the impulse or plan to start a business.
If you solve a problem, you can succeed. If you ask me about starting a business, I want to say that the key to success in starting a business is one sentence: as long as you can solve a problem, your project will be successful.
Let me start with a story from my college. 1992, I was admitted to the National People's Congress. The Department of Economics and the Department of Finance of the National People's Congress are very good majors, so it is particularly easy to find a job. I went to the sociology department and found that the most difficult thing in sociology department is to find a job.
At that time, the boss of the dormitory liked English girls for a whole year, and went to night study with her every night. Finally, one night, he invited the girl to the small garden at the East Gate of the National People's Congress. All five of us are excited to wait for the good news in the dormitory. Our dormitory boss came back and said that he had failed. Why? He said that the girl said that you are from the sociology department, and the sociology department can't even find a job. How can I fall in love with you?
So I want to solve the first problem and find a girlfriend. Although my major is not easy to find a job, after simple investigation and research, I found that girls like boys with mystery, so I thought for a long time, what is the most mysterious?
I suddenly found that in 1993, the most mysterious thing in China is the computer, so I decided to teach myself computer and programming, and compiled a business card management system for our department teacher.
Because as a professor of the National People's Congress, there are too many business cards to attend various meetings, which are hard to find. Through my program, I can't even find a word in the business card management system. They think it's really good.
So, at the end of the second semester of my sophomore year, I finally got my own girlfriend.
Integrity management for six years: strangers help JD.COM transform e-commerce
1998 when I started my business, I went to Zhongguancun and rented a four-square-meter counter in Zhongguancun with the accumulated 12000 yuan.
At that time, almost all businesses in Zhongguancun were doing business in the same mode. The boss's training for employees is basically 25 thousand for a notebook. How much is 35 thousand? Therefore, Zhongguancun also has ten tricks to teach you how to cheat customers. I think this is doomed to be wrong, and this chaotic situation will change one day.
So on the first day I opened the counter, I was the only merchant in Zhongguancun who clearly marked the price and invoiced all the products. I don't accept bargaining at my counter. All my products are genuine and licensed, and all my products can be invoiced.
At that time, my practice was incompatible with the whole market, because the whole business in Zhongguancun was basically trying every means, how to sell one dollar for two dollars, three dollars for six dollars, and even through a disguised deception. This is a bit of a problem. Whoever can solve this problem will succeed, which is very simple.
I have been doing this for six years. From a small counter to 2003, I have 12 stores in China and 3 stores in Beijing, and the turnover of each store is very good.
During the SARS in 2003, we had to close all the stores. All the employees were in the office, and they were very anxious every day. Because of the high rent and expenses, they were afraid to sell goods and the stores were afraid to open. So some of our colleagues mentioned it and said, why not do online sales?
If we sell online, we may not have to meet customers face to face. So, we posted on Sohu, Sina, 163 (Netease) and other websites, and found that the posts were deleted by the administrators. Occasionally, I don't delete it, no one clicks it, and no one believes it, because we just said in the BBS that I have a burner, how much is it, and there is a remittance account at the bottom. If you want to buy it, you should remit the money here first. At that time, I was too young and naive.
Later, we posted in a professional evaluation forum. Later, the moderator of the forum saw our post and not only replied but also put our post on the top. The host said, I know that JD.COM Multimedia is the only manufacturer in Zhongguancun that doesn't sell pirated CDs. Top! As a result, the order for 10 was received in one day.
It is precisely because of these six years' persistence that we won the trust of others, so that at the most critical moment, we got a simple help from someone whose name we never remembered, thus enabling JD.COM to successfully transform from offline to online and become an e-commerce.
Why did I start a business in JD.COM in 2006 and 2007? Many people say that you can't succeed. Why? He said that almost everything I want to buy can be bought on Dangdang, Zhuo Yue or Taobao, and things cheaper than you can be found in JD.COM, so many people say that you don't need to do it, and you are doomed to have no future.
But we don't think so. Why? Because I think there were many problems in online sales at that time, including today. I want to solve this problem.
Imagine that you go to a platform to buy mobile phones, and you find hundreds. Some of them are very cheap. When you click in, the seller quickly says "pro", and you ask "Why are you cheaper than others, 300 yuan?" Dear, our small shop has small profits but quick turnover.
After searching for a long time, you were finally persuaded. Then you place an order, and he tells you, "Honey, this is not free. Oh, dear, I'll tell you the order number. " Then the goods were received, and suddenly I found that there was no Chinese logo on the package. According to the laws of China, all products sold in China must have Chinese logo. Go and ask him, "didn't you tell me this is licensed?" Why didn't you receive one with Chinese logo? You are parallel imports. " It says "Dear, Allah is a Hong Kong bank" and it is licensed in Hong Kong.
You think it can work, even if it is not genuine and licensed. You spent two or three months happily, and suddenly something went wrong. You find the seller, and the seller says, "Honey, you can guarantee it, but I want to send your mobile phone to Hongkong, and the postage is 400 yuan, and the maintenance is free, but you have to pay the freight."
If you want to send 400 yuan to Hong Kong for repair, it may take two months. Go to Beijing to find a repair shop to repair it. People call you and tell you, "Sir, you have been cheated. Your mobile phone is refurbished and used. " Go to the seller and say, "Ah, aren't you licensed in Hong Kong? Today I went to repair it and said it was refurbished. " .
The seller said, "Dear, you take the evidence, you give it to me and let the mobile phone business open the evidence." If you can't open it, you can give me a refund. I'll give you a bad review if I don't return it. You really gave a bad review. As a result, your mobile phone was killed the next day, and 500 calls came in a day. Everyone knows that there is a software called "Call You to Death" in China. As long as the mobile phone is turned on, it will call you, and some sellers will send you all kinds of disgusting and dangerous things.
