1. Liu Bei borrowed Jingzhou
After the Battle of Chibi in 208 AD, Sun and Liu formed an alliance and marched on the victory. After more than a year of fierce fighting, they finally captured the city of Jingzhou. Since Jingzhou was an important battleground for military strategists, Zhou Yu, the commander-in-chief of Soochow, was personally appointed as the governor of Nanjun and took charge of Jingzhou. However, Liu Bei, who had made great contributions, could only lead his troops to guard the mouth of Youjiang River in the south of the Yangtze River. Liu Bei was once named General Zuo by Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, also known as Zuogong. After Liu Bei stationed at Youjiang Estuary, he changed the name of Youjiang Estuary to Public Security Bureau, which means "the peace of Zuo Gongan will be strong in the future". Liu Bei lived in Gong'an, and the land was small and the resources were scarce, which was not conducive to development, so he asked Sun Quan twice to borrow Jingzhou. Sun Quan adopted Zhou Yu's suggestion and not only did not borrow Jingzhou, but instead used the marriage between Wu and Shu to put Liu Bei under house arrest, making Liu Bei, who was in his 50s, a guest of Soochow. In 210 AD, Zhou Yu died of illness and was succeeded by Lu Su. Considering the strategic policy of the Wu-Shu alliance to resist Cao Cao, Lu Su persuaded Sun Quan to temporarily lend Jingzhou to Liu Bei. After Liu Bei borrowed Jingzhou, he used it as a foothold to fight against Cao Cao in the north, capture Yizhou in the west, and establish the Shu Han regime. There is still a common saying that "Liu Bei borrowed money from Jingzhou and never returned it."
2. "Yu Ion" records a story about someone who lost his life due to breach of trust
There was a businessman in Jiyang when his boat sank when he was crossing the river. He grabbed a hemp stalk and shouted loudly Call for help. A fisherman heard the sound and went there. The businessman hurriedly shouted: "I am the biggest rich man in Jiyang. If you can save me, I will give you 100 taels of gold." After being rescued ashore, the businessman turned his back on him. He only gave the fisherman 10 taels of gold. The fisherman blamed him for not keeping his word and going back on his word. The rich man said, "As a fisherman, you have never made much money in your life. Aren't you satisfied with suddenly getting ten taels of gold?" Ganfu had no choice but to leave in dismay. Unexpectedly, the rich man's boat capsized again. Someone wanted to save him, but Ganfu, who had been deceived by him, said: "He is the one who doesn't keep his words!" So the businessman drowned. It was accidental that the businessman capsized and met the same man twice, but the bad news for the businessman was to be expected. Because if a person does not keep his word, he will lose the trust of others. Therefore, once he is in trouble, no one is willing to come to his rescue. Those who break their trust will have no choice but to sit back and wait for death if they are in trouble.
Foreign countries, no integrity: Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc saved France, but she was betrayed by her own people. In a skirmish on May 23, 1430, Joan of Arc was captured. When she ordered the army to retreat back to the city of Compiègne, she was at the rear of the army to ensure that everyone returned to the city, but at this time Compiègne was afraid that the British army would follow them and did not wait for all the troops. After withdrawing, the city gate was closed, and Joan and the remaining rearguard were captured by the Burgundians.
The custom regarding captives at that time was that as long as the captive's family could pay the ransom...
