The greatness of life and the glory of death are famous quotes

The eight characters "Greatness in life, glory in death" are Mao Zedong's inscription for Liu Hulan. On January 12, 1947, Liu Hulan was arrested by the Kuomintang army and landlord armed forces. In the face of the enemy's threat, she was unyielding and said with dignity: "I am afraid of death if I am not a Communist Party member!" The enemy had no choice but to guillotine the six revolutionary people who were arrested at the same time to death on the spot. But she was not afraid and lay calmly under the guillotine. She used her short youth to compose eternal poems, and with her immortal spirit, she established a declaration of life. In late March 1947, when Mao Zedong led the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to move to northern Shaanxi, Ren Bishi, secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and commander of the Central Column, reported to him the heroic sacrifice of a little girl Liu Hulan. Mao Zedong asked: "Is she a Party member?" Ren Bishi said: "She is an excellent Communist Party member, only 15 years old." Mao Zedong was deeply moved and wrote the eight characters "Greatness in life, glory in death".

Unfortunately, in the tense battle, the inscription was unfortunately lost. The inscription we see now was re-inscribed by Mao Zedong on the 10th anniversary of the martyrs' sacrifice in 1957.

Hope it helps you
