Among the Confucian sages, Mencius has a heroic spirit, a strong spirit, and an awe-inspiring spirit. After reading it, I feel that my chest is full of righteousness, a steady stream, and full of grace. After reading, I get up and look at the world again, and there will be more. A little more confidence, a little more calmness.
Mencius was born in the middle period of the Warring States Period. At that time, on the one hand, the situation was chaotic due to killings and conquests; on the other hand, there were riotous discussions among scholars and divergent opinions. In this context, Mencius, who insisted on Confucianism, was not taken seriously by the kings of various countries. He became a frustrated man above the scholar level. However, he retired and wrote books, leaving a long-lasting force to future generations, that is, "Mencius".
When I first read "Mencius", I was shocked by Mencius' great personality ideal. He wants to be a man who stands upright and cares about the common people, not a little husband who only cares about the well-being of one person and one family. He earnestly wanted to persuade people to be benevolent, righteous, propriety, wise and trustworthy, carry out his own benevolent political ideas everywhere, respect the king and suppress hegemony, and spread benevolence to the whole world.
His writing is like his person, sincere, magnificent, upright and broad-minded.
The book has more than 35,000 words, seven articles, and fourteen chapters, covering many aspects, such as benevolent government, people-oriented, education, heresy, life, etc. I won’t summarize them systematically one by one. I will just reorganize my notes in order and record some feelings.
