After being rendered by later generations, Confucius in many people's minds is a person with rigid behavior rules.
Actually, it is not. Compared with most people, Confucius is an open-minded person.
Here, Confucius left two famous sayings in The Analects:
Confucius said: To the world, a gentleman is at a loss, and there is no Mo Ye. (The Analects of Confucius. Liren 4).
Yimin: Boyi, Shu Qi, Yuzhong, Yiyi, Zhang Zhu, Liu Xiahui and Shao Lian. Confucius said: Don't be low-minded, don't humiliate yourself, Boyi, Shu Qihe?
It is said that both Liu Xiahui and Shao Lian have fallen out of favor. It's just a matter of words and actions. It's about Yuzhong and Yiyi: living in seclusion, speaking freely, being clear, and abolishing the right in China. I am different, so I can't do anything. (The Analects of Confucius. The eighteenth micro ")
These two paragraphs, especially the first sentence, are almost a portrayal of Confucius' life behavior.
"A gentleman is at a loss for the world. Without Mo Ye, his righteousness is comparable." In other words, a gentleman treats people with things, and there is nothing he must do, and there is nothing he must not do. The key is to see if it is in line with righteousness.
In other words, a gentleman's lifestyle can be flexible as long as it is just; At the same time, everything can be flexible in order to conform to righteousness.
This can be said to be the core of Confucius' way of life.
Mastering this core, many seemingly contradictory behaviors that happened to Confucius will be solved.
For example, although Confucius is an out-and-out honest man, he always wants to leave when he is "called" on the issue of "looking for a job", such as:
The public mountain disturbs the fee, and the son wants to go. Lutz didn't say anything, but said: By the time it was over, it was already. Why do you have to be a public mountain? Confucius said: The husband refers to me, but I am not a disciple. If you are useful to me, I pay attention to the East. (The Analects of Confucius. Yang Huo XVII).
Wait, why is this?
The reason is that he has a strong desire to restore the way of civil and military affairs, and this desire is out of benevolence and righteousness.
Therefore, in Confucius' view, even an unsatisfactory person like Gong Rao can make do with it.
This is reminiscent of a famous saying by Mr. Zhang Boling, founder of Nankai University.
At that time, in order to raise money for the establishment and future development of the school, Mr. Zhang was asked to raise money everywhere, and the unpleasant thing was almost begging.
It can be said that in the early years of Nankai University, almost every building was transformed by President Zhang.
Many of the fund-raising targets were warlords and profiteers with poor reputation at that time. The hardships and even humiliation of raising funds from these people can be imagined.
Therefore, some teachers and scholars who accompanied him to raise funds found it unbearable and raised many questions. At this moment, Mr. Zhang Boling said a famous saying: Manure can also water flowers.
Because his behavior is just, he went to those warlords and profiteers to make alms, with the purpose of building an excellent university for China and cultivating outstanding talents for China, not for his own selfish interests.
This is basically consistent with the original intention of Confucius being vividly portrayed and even going to see Nanzi.
This is the so-called selfless world mind.
The latter sentence is even more vivid.
