Su Causeway was dredged from the West Lake when Su Shi was the governor of Hangzhou, and then evolved. Hangzhou people named it "Su Causeway" to commemorate Su Dongpo's achievements in managing the West Lake.
Extended data:
Bai Causeway 1
Bai Causeway was originally named Baishadi. When Bai Juyi was appointed as the secretariat of Hangzhou, he wrote a poem: "I love the lack of the eastbound lake, and the white sand embankment is in the shadow of the green poplar." This is the dam.
It should be noted that when Bai Juyi was appointed as the secretariat of Hangzhou, he built a dam near Hanshiqiao outside Qiantang Gate, named Baigong Dike, and now there is no trace to be found. Baigongdi is not Bai Causeway.
2. Su Causeway
The six most famous bridges that make up Su Causeway, namely Yingbo Bridge, Suolan Bridge, Wangshan Bridge, Diya Bridge, Dongpu Bridge and Cross Rainbow Bridge, are all named after Su Dongpo. In Su Dongpo's own poems, there is a clear record of the construction of this dike: "I came to Qiantang to expand the lake green, and the dike women competed for Changfeng." The sixth bridge spans the Tianhan River, and Beishan begins to connect with Nanping. "
