The following passage is a passage from the Shurangama Sutra of Buddhism, which has been translated into the vernacular.
The king of Persia asked the Buddha: "People say that after death, there is nothing, and with the destruction of the body, there is no soul. You said that the mind is immortal. Excuse me, how can I personally verify that this mind is immortal? "
The Buddha asked the king, "Do you think your body will never be bad now, or will it eventually be destroyed?"
The king replied, "It will be destroyed."
The Buddha asked the king, "Your body is not destroyed yet. How did you know it was going to be destroyed? "
The king replied: "Although my body has not been destroyed, I found that this body is constantly changing (metabolism), just like burning to ashes, gradually disappearing and dying, so I know that this body will die completely sooner or later."
Buddha said, "You are right. Your Majesty, seeing that you are old and weak now, how can your appearance be compared with that of your childhood? "
The king said, "Yes. I remember when I was a child, my skin was tender and smooth. As an adult, he is full of blood and strength. But now I am old, haggard, insane, with white hair and wrinkled face. I think this body is going to die soon, how can it be compared with my adolescence! "
Buddha said, "Although your appearance has changed a lot, it didn't suddenly become like this."
The king said, "Yes, this change has happened quietly, secretly and slowly. I really didn't notice it, and it gradually became like this. Why do you say that? Because I was young when I was twenty, but obviously much older than when I was ten. Compared with twenty years old, thirty years old is obviously a little older than twenty years old; I am sixty-two years old this year, and I feel very strong when I am fifty. I found that this change in the body seems to be great if it takes ten years as a cycle, but this change is actually not a change from one hundred to one hundred years, but should be a change year after year. Think again, in fact, it is not the change year after year, but the change month after month, day after day, all the time, and it can't stop. So I think my body will eventually become extinct. "
The Buddha said, "Your Majesty, you have seen this change, so you realize that your body will eventually perish. Do you know that when you die, there is something immortal in your body? "
The king said, "I really don't know what will happen after I die."
Buddha said, "Your Majesty, I'll let you verify the fairy now."
The Buddha asked, "Your Majesty, when did you first see the Ganges (Ganges is a big river in India, and they are chatting by this river)?"
The king replied, "When I was three years old. It was my mother who took me to the temple to burn incense and pray for my longevity. When I passed by here, I realized that this is Ganges water. "
Buddha said, "Your Majesty, as you just said, at the age of 20, you are even older than at the age of 10. Until now, you are 62 years old. Your body is constantly thinking about changes every year, every month, every day and every hour. However, what's the difference between what you saw when you were three and what you saw when you grew up to be thirteen? "
The king said, "When I was thirteen years old, I saw the water of the Ganges River, which seems to be no different from what I saw when I was three years old. Even the way I looked at the Ganges at the age of 62, I couldn't see any difference. "
Buddha said: "Now you lament that your hair is white and your face is wrinkled, which shows that your face is indeed much wrinkled than childhood. However, now you see the "visual" nature of Ganges water. That is,' seeing sex') and' seeing sex' when you were three years old, are you young or old? "
The king said, "No."
Buddha said, "Your Majesty, although your face is wrinkled, your visibility has never been wrinkled." Wrinkled things are wrinkled because they are constantly changing; Things that don't wrinkle don't wrinkle because they haven't changed. What changes will eventually die, and what does not change will not die, just as your visibility will not die. How can you say it will die with your body? How can you say that there is nothing after death? "
Hearing this, the king of Persia suddenly realized that after the end of this life, people will definitely rush to a new life. So I am very happy with the participants, and I have never been so happy!
Testimony:
After reading this, I suddenly understood an old saying: "The old man is not old"! Because seeing is part of the "heart"; The attributes of "seeing, hearing, feeling and knowing" are the same, and they are also motionless, unchanging, immortal and immortal. Therefore, the heart, mind or spirit is immortal. I don't know how you feel when you see this.
Maybe you will think of the Ganges water, and you will think that the Ganges water is endless. Why did the king of Persia say it was no different? If you really want to come here, you must have studied philosophy. Because anyone who has studied philosophy will remember a famous saying that one cannot step into the same river twice. You would think that the water in the Ganges is constantly changing and flowing every minute. How can you say that? Please note that what is said here is the "appearance" of water. The king of Persia said that the "appearance" of the water is the same, not the Ganges water. In fact, the water hasn't changed. These are all the things you see. It doesn't matter. The real intention of Buddha is to let you know "visibility". No matter what you see is changed or unchanged, this "visibility" is always the same and immortal.
Maybe you will say: My eyesight is constantly changing. My eyes are nearsighted, farsighted and dim. I didn't wear glasses before, but now I have to wear glasses. I even said I had cataracts. Then I will tell you that your "seeing" ability is poor, and your "seeing" has not changed at all. Even if your eyes can't see any light before you go blind, you can only say that you have no ability to see, and your visibility remains unchanged because you can see darkness. Visibility is like a TV signal (the ability to produce TV images), and the human body is like a TV set. When a TV set and some of its components are aging, it may not display colors normally, even black and white, or even no images, which only shows that the TV set is not easy to use, aging and almost finished. But it can't be said that the TV signal is not good or the TV signal is aging. If people can't see sex, they really can't see anything, neither light nor darkness. Just like there is no TV signal, there is no TV to broadcast programs. This shows that no matter how your eyes change, your visibility will not change.
If you still think that there is no sex after death, it means that when your body disappears, the space occupied by your body is gone. This is incorrect, because vanity, like visibility, is immobile, unchangeable and immortal. I realize that the essence of seeing is fixed and will not change, and there is no phenomenon of birth and death. That is to say, "seeing" can also be said that "soul" existed before I was born and will not perish after I die. This brings a new question: Where does life come from? Where is death going? This is another topic.
