During the summer vacation, I attended a three-day professional course on early childhood education and intelligent development, which gave me a new understanding of the potential of young children. The following are my thoughts on learning and I hope it can inspire everyone. We have all heard the saying, "Even scientists only use ten percent of their brains' potential." This means that 90% of the human brain is unused. So how do we develop the remaining 90%, or increase the capacity of the brain to a greater extent?
Let’s first understand the functions and characteristics of the left and right brains? The left brain is only responsible for judgment, analysis and processing of words, mathematics, number changing, etc. It is characterized by rationality and abstraction. The right brain is responsible for imagination, innovation, super memory, and processing of information such as pictures and sounds. Take memory as an example. The left brain has short-term memory, which has a narrow retention period and a narrow capacity; while the right brain is just the opposite. It has a long retention period and a large capacity. Left-brain memories last only a few minutes, while right-brain memories may last a lifetime. In short, the left brain is rational and the right brain is emotional. As a social person, we must need the coordinated development of the left and right brains to better complete self-growth. But unfortunately, Chinese-style exam-oriented education focuses more on cultivating children's development of language, mathematics, symbols, concepts, etc., that is, the development of the left brain. European and American countries pay more attention to the development of the right brain such as imagination, innovation ability, and divergent thinking. If we say that the children trained in exam-oriented education in China have 90 points in the left brain and 20 points in the right brain, 90*20=1800 points; while the children in European and American countries have only 60 points in the left brain and 60 points in the right brain, 60*60=3600 points. The differences emerge after such a comparison, so it is not difficult to find that in many fields, Chinese people like to imitate various foreign products, but lack the ability to create and innovate. This has nothing to do with the education model. I wonder if everyone agrees?
Although people's IQ has a certain relationship with genetics, it can also be achieved through acquired training to achieve a better state. Just like the most popular TV show "Big Brain", they have reached heights that ordinary people can't match through deliberate training. I just spent a lot of space explaining the importance of stimulating the right brain. Now let’s talk about something practical. What should we do in the process of raising children? The first is to grasp the time. The critical period for the development of a child's brain is 0-6 years old. Most people have heard that the sensitive period of a child's growth is the prime time to develop a certain skill in the child. Just like the case of the wolf child, if the baby is isolated from people as soon as he is born, he is placed in the mountains and old forests. Even if he returns to human life after a few years, he will not be able to learn human language or walk upright. Therefore, we need to stimulate the child's right brain when the child is 0-6 years old to achieve twice the result with half the effort. Next is the method, which is divided into ten modules. First, relax. Any kind of learning can only be achieved in a relaxed state. There are many ways to relax, such as listening to music, taking deep breaths, or stretching your limbs, etc. Second, brain exercise. Through brain exercises, our brain switches can be turned on, so that we can better receive external information and make the brain operate at a high speed. Third, eye training. Training methods include: trajectory tracking, palms covering eyes, night and day, and vision expansion training. Fourth, visual image training. The method is to stare at the dot with both eyes for 30 seconds, close your eyes and see if you can see the object you are staring at, until the real object appears. Fifth, thinking image training. Improve children's imagination and image thinking by reading a text or playing music. Sixth, ESP training. Mainly train children's intuition and sixth sense ability. Eighth memory training. Let the child observe the location of the object or picture for 3 seconds, and then the object reappears. Ninth, serial memory. Use stories to train children to memorize 20 vocabulary words in 5 minutes. Tenth, whole brain ability training. Complete various homework operation cards, combining operation and theory. In specific applications, we must pay attention to focusing on positive encouragement and guidance, and avoid testing and evaluating children. Each step is conducted in a game-like manner, focusing on the process rather than the results, because once testing and evaluation are carried out, children will feel nervous and stressed and slowly lose interest. The above is about ways and means to stimulate the potential of young children. It may require more on-site demonstrations to master the essentials. Right brain development is to stimulate children's potential. We hope that every child's potential can be developed to the maximum extent.
