The Supreme Leader of Iran (Persian: ) is also known as the Iranian revolutionary leader and the Supreme Leader of Iran. He is the head of state at the same time as the President of Iran, but not the head of government. According to the Iranian Constitution, he is the supreme religious and central political leader of Iran. Iran's spiritual leader is elected by a council of experts and serves for life, although he can theoretically be impeached by the same council. Although the Council of Experts is elected by the public, candidates' qualifications will be reviewed by a Constitutional Guardian Council appointed by Iran's spiritual leader before the election.
