refers to the cultivation of self-restraint and self-restraint ability. Confucius has a famous saying about "self-denial": "Self-denial is benevolence". This means that everyone should restrain their improper desires, impulsive emotions and incorrect words and deeds, and consciously abide by social moral norms (that is, the provisions of "etiquette"). Do "see no evil, don't listen if you are indecent, be silent if you are indecent, and don't move if you are indecent", so that your sight, hearing, words, actions and actions are in line with the rules of etiquette, that is, with the requirements of social ethics. Confucius has always advocated controlling feelings with courtesy, restraining his words and deeds with courtesy, and repeatedly criticized emotional behavior, unable to restrain impulsive reckless behavior. He said to the students: "I forgot my body and my relatives in anger. Is it confusing?" ("The Analects? Yan Yuan) pointed out that if you can't control the impulse, you will often do stupid things that hurt yourself and your loved ones, which is very unwise. He also said: "Being brave is not easy to learn, and its cover is also chaotic. ("The Analects? Yang Huo) means that we have to be brave. If we don't like learning, we can't control our feelings with courtesy. We are easy to get emotional and get into trouble. Among the six aspects of self-cultivation, Confucius paid more attention to "self-denial", believing that as long as everyone can restrain himself according to the requirements of etiquette, everyone can become a gentleman, and the whole society can carry forward benevolence and realize the ideal world of great harmony. Therefore, Confucius said, "One day, self-denial and self-defense, the world will return to benevolence." ("The Analects? Yan Yuan)
