His main research field is modern and contemporary literature in China, and he is a famous contemporary literary critic and theorist. 1985, together with professors Chen Pingyuan and Qian Liqun from Chinese Department of Peking University, he put forward the concept of "20th-century China literature", and advocated that the modern and contemporary literature of China should be traced back to the late Qing Dynasty, and the century-old literature should be studied as a whole, which aroused great repercussions at that time. In addition, most of the research results of his representative revolutionary historical novel About 17 Literature have been transformed into the conclusion of literary history, and the concept of "revolutionary historical novel" initiated by him has been accepted and interpreted by many literary histories, including the Contemporary Literary History of China by Peking University and Hong Zicheng. Professor Huang Ziping is known as the "first violinist" in the field of contemporary literature research in China. He has taught in the Chinese Department of Hong Kong Baptist University for many years. In the 1980s, he left many famous sayings, such as "innovative dogs chased us so hard that we didn't even have time to pee" and "profound one-sidedness". He is currently teaching at the College of Literature, Renmin University of China.
