Inspirational figure: Gao Huijun, using faith to support the backbone of youth
In the education column of Gao Huijun’s resume, technical secondary school, self-study undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, There is still a gap in the field of full-time undergraduate education, but he is the only person on the professional title promotion list of Harbin Institute of Technology who has been promoted from lecturer to professor, and he is also the youngest doctoral supervisor at Harbin Institute of Technology. Behind his magnificent transformation from a self-taught undergraduate to a doctoral tutor was his extraordinary dedication and perseverance of faith.
Never give up or give up
Gao Huijun never attended high school. In 1991, when he was 15 years old, he chose to attend technical secondary school in Shaanxi No. 1 Industrial School. “The purpose at that time was very simple, which was to be able to work immediately after graduation and reduce the financial burden on poor families,” Gao Huijun said. However, deep in his heart, there seemed to be another goal or ideal vaguely sprouting in his heart. He always believed that he could always do something decent. Devoting himself to study, his grades have always ranked first. In the second year of technical secondary school, he began to prepare for the junior college self-study exam. Staying up late and getting up early became commonplace. He studied hard with old materials used by others. In the eyes of others, he never seemed tired. Finally, when he graduated from technical secondary school, he took 13 courses in the junior college. All exams passed.
After graduating from technical secondary school, Gao Huijun found a job naturally. Although his work and rest hours were irregular and the conditions were difficult, he still did not give up studying and did not forget his pursuit. In order to study for his undergraduate degree, he used all available time to study. He often studied while working at the machine tool. He often fell asleep while reading at night, but he continued to study after waking up. Those books stained with machine tool oil bear witness to those hard years. “I remember that in order to save fares, I rode a bicycle to and from work, registration points and examination rooms in the ancient city of Xi’an, rain or shine; I remember that life at that time was often unable to make ends meet, and I often needed to borrow money to buy materials and pay registration fees; (inspirational quote sun) I still clearly remember the pain and helplessness I felt when I encountered a difficult problem, stayed up all night and had no one to ask for advice. How many times I wanted to give up but gritted my teeth and persevered. I also remember not being able to go home to visit a seriously ill person because I didn’t have enough travel expenses. My father was bedridden for several months and my mother was hospitalized due to stomach bleeding..." Speaking of those years, Gao Huijun still vividly remembers them.
"No one is born to like hardship, but growing up in Heilongjiang, Heilongjiang people have a spirit of daring to endure hardship and not admitting defeat, the spirit of Daqing, the spirit of Iron Man, and the spirit of Beidahuang The spirit has been in our bones since childhood," Gao Huijun said. In this way, within two years, he passed all 15 courses required for undergraduate self-study exams in one go and obtained an undergraduate diploma.
God rewards hard work
Some people say that dissatisfaction is the wheel of progress. Gao Huijun just felt that he still had the ability to study better, so he embarked on the path of taking the postgraduate entrance examination. If you want to take the postgraduate entrance examination, you have to lose your job. No job means no financial resources. I only relied on a little savings and family support to get through the years of studying hard.
He scored more than 350 points in the postgraduate entrance examination and was admitted to Shenyang University of Technology. During his master's degree studies, Gao Huijun seized every minute and second to tutor in English and learn professional knowledge. I got up early every day to listen to English radio, memorize words, read aloud, and participate in English corners... I persisted like this for two years. When he graduated, his classmates were all choosing between various high-paying positions, but he once again made a surprising choice - to continue studying for a doctorate. In 2001, he successfully entered the School of Aerospace Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology to pursue a doctorate degree. Under the guidance of his mentor, he began to engage in scientific research and explored a new research direction.
Gao Huijun’s belief at that time was to strive to do the best in research work. Harbin Institute of Technology's superior scientific research conditions and research atmosphere provide a lot of room for development. During his doctoral studies, he published dozens of high-level academic papers in authoritative journals at home and abroad. He was the first person to win a national outstanding paper in the history of the control discipline of Harbin Institute of Technology.
Love Returns to the Black Land
From October 2005 to October 2007, Gao Huijun went to the University of Alberta in Canada to engage in postdoctoral research and received the Funded by two well-known research funds, the Innovation Fund and the Killam Postdoctoral Fund. When his research work is about to end, he can choose to go to Germany as a Humboldt scholar, he can choose to go to the United Kingdom for visiting research, or he can choose to continue teaching and research in North American universities. Gao Huijun said bluntly: "Not only is the scientific research environment abroad better than at home, but my wife and children can also live a better material life." But with a feeling and a responsibility, he returned to his hometown without hesitation and became a researcher. Doctoral supervisors devote all their energy to teaching and scientific research. The student he mentored, Mou Shaoshuai, received a full scholarship from Yale University and was the first student in our province to attend Yale. Now, Gao Huijun has begun to carry out research work on bionic robots and flight control, and is conducting cooperative research with famous universities at home and abroad, striving to better apply the results of theoretical research into practice and contribute to the national aerospace industry. .
