In the first Kuomintang cooperation, due to the sabotage of the Kuomintang rightists such as Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei, the first Kuomintang cooperation failed. Under the slogan "I would rather kill a thousand by mistake than let one person go," we carried out a mass killing of members of the Communist Party of China. Under such circumstances, the party leader Chen Duxiu repeatedly gave in, causing heavy losses to our party. The August 7th Conference corrected Chen Duxiu's right-leaning capitulationist mistakes. At the conference, Mao Zedong proposed that political power should come from the barrel of a gun and formulated the general policy of armed resistance to the Kuomintang. This conference saved the party and the revolution.
