Biography

Lu Xun (1881--1936), whose courtesy name was Hencai, was originally named Zhou Shuren, and was a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang. A great modern Chinese writer, thinker and revolutionist. "Lu Xun" was the pen name he used when he published "The Diary of a Madman", the first vernacular novel in the history of modern Chinese literature, in 1918. In his youth, he was influenced by the theory of evolution, Nietzsche's philosophy of the Superman and Tolstoy's thought of philanthropy. In 1902, he went to Japan to study.
