My friend asked me to recommend some calligraphy and painting that can be hung in the study. I asked him what he thought. He thinks "Humble Room Inscription" is the best and also modest. So I asked him: I am a humble room, but I am virtuous and not overbearing? He suddenly realized, so he asked me to recommend a poem suitable for hanging in the study.
I have chosen this song for Zheng Banqiao, Zhuge Liang, Lao Zi, Qu Yuan, and Han Yu, except that he is "not indifferent, not quiet, not far away", "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", "The road is long, and I will go up and down". There are three reasons:
First, the works of eminent monks are unconventional and pretend to be cultural masterpieces.
Second, there are no uncommon words, which contain famous sentences from ancient times to the present. The world can understand, but can't.
Thirdly, it is rumored that Li Ka-shing once received such a calligraphy and painting as his motto in the office.
The author of this poem is Zen Master Hui Kai, a monk in the Song Dynasty. Hui Kai studied Taoism in his early years, and the master made him understand the word "nothing". After enduring six years of cold and heat, he finally understood the word "nothing". In the next few years, he wrote the wisdom of his life into a book "No Door", which contains many classic poems.
One of the most famous is this poem "If you don't close the gate, you get nothing". None of the 28 words in the poem are common, but they are written all year round. Let's have a taste:
In the Southern Song Dynasty, there were flowers in spring and summer, cool breeze in summer and snow in winter. If you don't mind your own business, this is a good time on earth. There are no uncommon words in the whole poem, which is as clear as the vernacular and catchy to read. The last two sentences are the true meaning of life. It's a pity that the world can understand it but can't, but it's not bad to hang it in the study to comfort yourself occasionally.
