Ming Tang Yin
There is a peach blossom nunnery in Taohuawu, and a peach blossom fairy under the peach blossom nunnery.
The Peach Blossom Fairy planted peach trees and picked peach flowers in exchange for wine money.
When you are sober, you just sit in front of the flowers; when you are drunk, you come to sleep under the flowers.
Half drunk and half awake day after day, flowers fall and bloom year after year.
I hope that I will die of old age among the flowers and wine, and I don’t want to bow in front of the carriage.
If we compare the manifest ones to the hermits, one is on the ground and the other is in the sky.
If flowers and wine are compared to chariots and horses, how busy they are and how idle I am.
The world laughs at me for being crazy, but I laugh at others because they can’t see through it.
There are no tombs of heroes from Wuling, no flowers, no wine, no hoeing for fields.
Notes:
Taohua Temple: Tang Yin built a house in Taohuawu, named Taohua Temple.
Taohuawu (wù): located outside Jinchang Gate in Suzhou. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhang Ju and his son built a villa here, but later it was gradually abandoned as a vegetable garden. Tang Yin built a house here, hence the name Peach Blossom Temple.
Chariots and horses: Only high-ranking officials and powerful people have chariots and horses. Chariots and horses are used here to refer to high-ranking officials and powerful people.
Wuling: Originally refers to the five imperial tombs of the Han Dynasty, Changling, Anling, Yangling, Maoling and Pinling. This refers to the place where senior executives and dignitaries are buried.
Translation:
There is a Peach Blossom Temple in Taohuawu, and there is a Peach Blossom Fairy in Peach Blossom Temple.
The Peach Blossom Fairy planted many peach trees and picked peach blossoms to exchange for wine money.
(Peach Blossom Fairy) When you are sober, you sit in front of the peach blossoms. When you are drunk, you still come to sleep under the peach blossoms.
Half drunk and half awake day after day, flowers fall and bloom year after year.
I would rather die in a house of flowers and wine than bow down to those high-ranking officials and dignitaries.
Driving and riding horses is the pleasure of the powerful, while drinking and planting flowers is the opportunity of the hermits.
If you want to compare a wealthy person with a hermit, one is on the ground and the other is in the sky (incomparable).
If you want to compare the lover of peach blossoms and drink (Peach Blossom Fairy) with the powerful, how busy and hardworking he is, how leisurely and leisurely I am.
People in the world laugh at me for being crazy, and I despise them for not understanding the truth.
I haven’t seen the tombs of those famous people in Wuling. (The glory of their lives has passed away.) There are neither peach blossoms nor fine wines, and they are being hoeed for farmland.
Background:
In March of Yichou, the 18th year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty, peach blossoms were in full bloom in Taohuawu small garden, and Tang Yin composed "Song of Peach Blossom Temple".
Appreciation:
No one takes the initiative to be a hermit, including Tang Bohu. But when real life brings only pain and trouble, then why not become a hermit and avoid those meaningless fame and fortune.
Taohua Ange expresses Tang Bohu’s attitude towards life that gives up fame, pursues seclusion, is unwilling to compromise with the world, and enjoys leisurely life.
This is a negative attitude, but at the same time it is also an optimistic attitude.
"Where there is a will, there is a way", "Failure is the mother of success", "Success is one percent sweat plus ninety-nine percent effort." These inspirational quotes from famous people all inspire us to work hard and make progress. Yes, life can be about you overcoming difficulties and climbing over mountains one after another.
So, can life be lived in seclusion in the countryside, not seeking wealth but only comfort?
Tang Bohu made this choice.
He compares himself to the Peach Blossom Fairy. He sits in Taohuawu, lives in Peach Blossom Nunnery, plants peach trees and earns peach money.
Drinking, admiring flowers, selling flowers and buying wine, drinking, admiring flowers, selling flowers and buying wine, repeating this several times is his day.
This is what he wishes in his heart.
You have to compare those wealthy lives with him. Wealth requires work and worry, but he has nothing to worry about, only flowers and wine.
If you laugh at him as a poor boy pretending to be cool, he has already seen through the truth. Everyone has to die. Who can still be rich after death? They are all just a handful of dirt.
Tang Bohu told the facts of the world, wealth is like clouds and smoke, and everyone is equal in death.
So are we still fighting?
Struggle.
We appreciate this attitude of being indifferent to fame, and we should also learn from this attitude. It tells us that our struggle is not for fame and fortune, not for the world, but for many things, it can be money, it can be love, it can be ideal, it can be everything you like and want.
On the road of struggle, there is no success or failure, only you, whether you are still you.
Like Tang Bohu, being independent of the world is also a choice of struggle.
We are all running, we are all dream chasers.
