Xichun's becoming a monk should be defined as one of many tragic fates in A Dream of Red Mansions. Since it is a tragedy, of course, her becoming a monk should not be understood as an act of pure spiritual belief. She chose to become a monk, but she chose a helpless road of self-protection in "After the Three Springs, everyone needs to find their own doors". In the way of becoming a monk, she tried to escape the more tragic and heartless fate suffered by the collapse of the Jia family and barely saved her meager dignity.
