"Return to Nature, Return to Original Intention"
I accidentally dug out a few composition books and flipped through them accidentally. I felt a lot and found some problems at the same time, so I mentioned this. Among these composition books, one is from the "Composition" magazine that I used when I was in junior high school in 1995, and the other is a selection of outstanding compositions in 2005. They are all compositions published by regular composition magazines. Open the table of contents of the book , first compare the topics of several essays written more than ten years ago: "Love", "Forgive Me, Stepfather", "An Incident Happened in Our Class", "An Interesting Lesson", "Unforgettable Hometown", "Father's Little Stone Mill", "Beautiful Dragon Pool in My Hometown", "Selling Spring Festival Couplets", etc., 2005 essay titles "Breakthrough Obstacles, Beyond Self", "I Found Confidence and Courage", "The Confusion of Modern Civilization", " "The Most Important Word in Life", "Learning to Appreciate is Good for Your Health", "Let Faith Bloom", "See the World with Two Eyes", etc. Comparing the two, ten years apart, most of the composition titles of junior high school students in the 1990s revealed very simple, natural, and very relatable information. Let us know that what we are writing is a narrative essay as soon as we look at the title. The title is clear and clear at a glance. , carrying the students’ simple and innocent hearts. Nowadays, most of the essay topics are the sentiments and reflections of young friends, and excessive use of argumentative and lyrical writing is used. Therefore, it is difficult for us to see clearly the "true face of Mount Lu" from the title. It seems that the young author is full of vicissitudes of life and every sentence of "real knowledge and insight".
Looking back at the content of the essays, I feel that the essays written by middle school students more than ten years ago were "all realistic, extremely simple, natural, and genuine essays." It is obvious that there are many narratives and descriptions in the composition, but few lyrical discussions. The words between the lines are often filled with the true feelings of the world, or the detailed description of parents' affection, or the faint aftertaste of hometown customs, or the endless fun of small things in life. They are real life and emotional pictures, and the true expression of the students' emotions at that time. , is also a passionate reflection of students’ colorful extracurricular life. Reading it makes us feel at peace, makes us think about it for a long time, and makes us close our books and think deeply.
Looking at the compositions written by middle school students today, the content and language are almost all following the popular "non-mainstream". The language of some compositions is slightly "odd", and the content is even a bit "vulgar". Too many reflections, feelings, and insights filled the entire text. I couldn’t help but ask myself, do children today really have so many insightful insights and profound discussions? This kind of composition is no longer a narrative essay required for junior high school composition teaching. Children probably can’t write real narrative essays, and they all become critics and commentators.
The reason for this phenomenon, I think, is that on the one hand it is due to teachers’ excessive one-sided requirements and wrong guidance, as well as too much pursuit of innovation and constant imitation. Furthermore, it also reflects a deeper and prominent problem, which is the unhealthy psychology of modern middle school students. They are under too much pressure to study, and the heavy academic load makes them breathless, which makes them have to write all the time in their compositions. Vomit quickly. The lack of happiness and innocence that childhood should have, the lack of close contact with nature, and the lack of opportunities to chat with relatives and friends are also important factors in their psychological bias.
