Know thyself
I only know one thing, and that is that I know nothing
Socrates, ancient Greek philosopher The famous Greek philosopher and educator, he and his student Plato, as well as Plato's student Aristotle, are known as the "Three Sages of Ancient Greece" and are widely considered by future generations to be the founders of Western philosophy.
He never wrote anything in his life, and his remarks are mostly seen in the works of Plato and Xenophon, such as "Memoirs of Socrates' Words and Actions".
Socrates regards himself as a gift from God to Athens. His task is to talk to people all day long, discuss problems, and explore the truth and wisdom that is most useful to himself or others. He liked to talk about various issues in the streets, such as what is virtue? What is piety? What is courage? Etc., people are very ignorant on these issues that are crucial to people, so people need to seek what is true justice and goodness through critical research.
At around the age of 40, he became a well-known figure in Athens. He was debating with many wise men at the time, mainly on issues of ethics, morality and education, and was considered the wisest man at the time.
Socrates’ teachings are mystical. He believed that the survival, development and destruction of various things in heaven and on earth were arranged by God.
He advocated people to understand the principles of life and live a moral life. He defined philosophy as "the love of wisdom." One of his important points is that he knows he is ignorant. Many children from rich and poor families often surrounded him and asked him for advice, but Socrates often said: "I only know that I know nothing." His answer seemed to be saying, people, only people like Like Socrates, those who know that their wisdom is actually worthless are the wisest people. He was proud of "his ignorance" and believed that everyone should admit their ignorance.
Socrates said: "My mother was a midwife, and I want to follow in her footsteps. I am a spiritual midwife, helping others generate their own thoughts."
Adversity is the highest school for human beings to acquire knowledge, and difficult problems are the door for humans to acquire wisdom.
I meet the world, I get to know the world, and I fulfill my mission to gather with all living beings.
Those who want to control the world must first control themselves.
Only by knowing yourself can you know life.
People should understand that the little soul you have is incomparable to the ultimate wisdom. When people know that they are ignorant, it becomes a powerful force that drives people to pursue true knowledge and criticize hypocrisy.
As for the content of education, he advocated that first, we should cultivate people's virtues, teach people to learn to behave, and become virtuous people; second, we should teach people to learn extensive and practical knowledge. He said that in all things, those who are respected and praised are those who have the most knowledge, while those who are condemned and despised are those who are the most ignorant; finally, he advocated teaching people to exercise . He believes that a healthy body is very important for physical and mental activities, both in peacetime and in wartime.
