Characteristics of Lu Xun's novels;
Lu Xun's novels have a unique selection of themes. In terms of subject matter, Lu Xun only selected "brave generals" from classical literature. The model of strategists, thieves and looters, monsters and gods, talented men and beauties, and later prostitutes and clients, scoundrels and slaves was reformed. With the Enlightenment-style creation purpose of "for life", it created the "expression of farmers and knowledge". "molecules" are two major themes of modern literature.
His materials are "mostly taken from the unfortunate people in a sick society." Lu Xun had an extremely unique vision when dealing with these themes. When observing and expressing his protagonists, he has his own unique perspective, that is, he always pays attention to the mental "suffering" of intellectuals and farmers in the "sick society".
These reforms of Lu Xun evolved into two novel plots and structural patterns: "seeing/being seen" and "returning home" in "The Scream" and "Wandering". In the novel "The Public", everyone's action is only "looking", and the relationship is only "looking" and "being seen", thus forming a binary opposition between "seeing" and "being seen". This opposition is reflected in "Diary of a Madman" ", "Kong Yiji", "Blessing" and other novels are shown.
In the "Homecoming" mode, Lu Xun not only tells other people's stories but also tells his own stories. The two penetrate and influence each other to form a polyphony. For example, in "Blessing", he talks about "I" , the triple relationship between "Sister-in-law Xianglin" and "Lu Zhen". This relationship includes both the story of "I" and "Lu Zhen" and the story of Sister Xianglin and Lu Zhen. However, readers often ignore the former, which tells the story of "Sister-in-law Xianglin" and "Lu Zhen". A story about "The Eternal Wanderer", which tells the story of cannibalism in a feudal society.
The two stories are connected in series, questioning "my" soul with Xianglin's wife's questions, thereby revealing the inner connection between "I" and the traditional spirit of Luzhen. Novels similar to this model include "Hometown", "The Lonely" and "In the Restaurant".
