Feng Weixing was born into a noble family. After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy at Moscow State University for two years. Since 1762, he has worked in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a long time, first as a French translator, and later as secretary in the minister's office. His immediate boss used to be in charge of the Royal Theater and had close contacts with leading figures in the theater world. Feng Weixing, who worked as a secretary, was also involved in the theater circle. His first comedy, The Brigadier (1769), was written while he was secretary in the minister's office. But Feng Weixing's more representative play is "The Young Man" (1781). In this script, the evil of serfdom, the main social evil that hindered the progress of Russian society, was revealed.
The protagonists of "The Dandy Boy" are the female landowner Prostakova and her son Mitrofan. Prostakova was extremely fierce. Her maid complained: "I only get five rubles a year, but I have to be beaten five times every day." Mitrofan was a dandy boy, and his famous saying was "I just want to get married, not study." As the opposite of Prostakova and her son, von Wessing introduces two high-status enlightened nobles in the play - Starodum and Plavkin. The dramatic conflict finally intensified until Plavkin revealed his identity as "imperial envoy" and declared guardianship of the Prostakova family and their estate in the name of the emperor.
It can be seen from "The Dandy Boy" that Feng Weixin stood against the aristocracy's unkindness for wealth and the ignorance and darkness of serfdom from the standpoint of enlightened democracy and enlightenment. He placed his hope in a wise monarch. Disadvantages of reform. He could not yet find the power to revolutionize Russian society outside the Russian aristocratic ruling group. Moreover, in terms of the artistic expression of drama, we still cannot get rid of the shackles of classicism.
