In the past, most farming families advocated the Confucian words "filial piety, loyalty, courtesy, honesty and shame" as the basis of self-cultivation and family planning. Because of the high academic qualifications of scholars, people of a clan will keep their words. Ancestral couplets are also written by literati, and it is estimated that the eight-character proverbs in Yang Ancestral couplets also refer to these eight words.
