Brief introduction of Weixian concentration camp
Weixian concentration camp (English name: WeiHsien Camp, also known as Ledaoyuan concentration camp or Shandong concentration camp) is located in Ledaoyuan, Weixian County, Shandong Province, which is now Weifang Wenguang Middle School and Weifang People's Hospital. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, Japan retaliated against the United States for restricting the activities of Japanese-Americans in the United States. 1942 in March, the Japanese army set up an alien concentration camp here, where 2,008 European and American expatriates were detained (500 were released in the exchange of prisoners of war), including 327 children. Detainees include Lei Zhenyuan, an American who served as Chiang Kai-shek's adviser, Dr Hirsch, Dean of North China Theological Seminary, Deweisi, Dean of cheeloo university, Heng Anshi, a teacher attached to Fu Jen Catholic University, and Eric Lidier, a famous British Olympic 400-meter sprint champion. 1 The people in the concentration camp have received sympathy and help from local farmers and anti-Japanese troops. When the materials in the concentration camp were scarce, the local people quietly delivered meals for them, and the anti-Japanese organizations sent letters for them, and helped Heng Anshi and others escape successfully, and informed the American Embassy in Chongqing in time. The local people also secretly sent the materials dropped by the US military to the concentration camp, helping most people in the concentration camp to survive the years of imprisonment until 1945 was liberated in August.
