Fan Zeng (1938-), also known as Shiyi, was born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. He is a famous contemporary Chinese scholar, thinker, master of traditional Chinese culture, master of calligraphy and painting, writer and poet. He is currently the dean and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Chinese Painting at Peking University, a doctoral supervisor of the School of History, a doctoral supervisor of the School of Liberal Arts, and a tenured professor of Nankai University, a lifelong researcher and doctoral supervisor of the Chinese Academy of Arts, and a UNESCO “Multicultural Special Adviser". He is a cultural master of contemporary China who combines poetry, calligraphy, painting, literature, history and philosophy, as well as Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. He has written numerous works in his life, including about 150 kinds of poetry, calligraphy, painting and philosophy, 119 of which are collected by the National Library.
