In primary and secondary schools, portraits and famous sayings of celebrities are always hung outside the classroom corridor. There is a saying: "cleverness lies in diligence, and genius lies in accumulation." And the person who said this sentence was called China's Einstein-Hua. Even with a junior high school diploma, he is listed as one of the 88 greatest mathematicians in the world by his own strength. His life is full of legends. He is a world-class mathematician, and his achievements cover many important fields of mathematics.
Poor families were forced to drop out of school.
Hua was born in Jintan District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. His parents are the owners of a grocery store in Jintan District. However, such a respected mathematician barely passed the math grade in primary school, and even in senior one, he was still on the verge of passing. It was not until the end of senior one that he realized that as long as he studied hard, there would be nothing that could not be solved. Learning is hard work.
Later, in the second grade of junior high school, his math scores have undergone fundamental changes. Let him have such a change, the most important thing is that he met the math teacher Li in middle school. The teacher stimulated his interest in learning mathematics, and through continuous teaching, he laid a good foundation for learning middle school mathematics. 1925 graduated with the second place in the whole school and successfully obtained the junior high school diploma. This also became the highest diploma in his life.
Although his grades are excellent, due to the financial difficulties at home, it is really impossible to provide extra expenses for China to attend high school. Later, he chose to study in Shanghai China Vocational Accounting School for Industry and Commerce, because the cost of high school at that time was much higher than that of vocational and technical schools.
When he was studying in a vocational accounting school, he always got good grades in mathematics. Hua, 16 years old, took part in the abacus calculation competition for Shanghai employees. With her unique mental arithmetic and abacus calculation methods, she beat all the masters in Shanghai and won the competition 1 name. But he only went to school for one year, and his parents really couldn't afford his living expenses in Shanghai, so they had to go home to help their parents manage the grocery store business.
Life is always so unfortunate.
After he dropped out of school and stayed at home, he went on studying mathematics. Many people call him a nerd because he is too focused and often ignores his guests, and he is often laughed at by his neighbors. But in the process of learning mathematics gradually, he learned a clear and concise thinking method, which was later praised as the direct method by the international mathematics community.
Later, the headmaster of his alma mater in middle school saw that he was very talented in mathematics and hired him as a school accountant. At that time, Hua had taught himself all the math courses in high school and the first two years of college at home, and began to find and study problems. Even write some papers to be published in some academic magazines.
However, as soon as his first paper was published, his family suffered misfortune. His mother died suddenly and typhoid fever broke out again in the city. Unfortunately, he was infected with typhoid fever and couldn't afford it. Flowers have been lying for half a year. At that time, the doctor decided that he could not be treated, but it was not long before he recovered. Although the disease was overcome, due to long-term bed rest, the joint of the left leg was deformed and bent, and it was impossible to walk normally.
The turning point in life
After recovery, he continued to do his previous job and studied math diligently every day. Later, he found some problems in Su Jiaju's Algebraic quintic Equation in Science magazine, questioned the magazine, and corrected it in time after receiving it. Hua also has his own unique views on this algebraic quintic equation, so he wrote his own views in a paper and published them in a magazine.
After this paper was published, it attracted the attention of Xiong Qinglai, director of the Department of Mathematics in Tsinghua University. Later, Xiong Qinglai asked the mathematician Hua, who had never heard of him. Later, someone told him that Hua was just a clerk in a grocery store. Xiong Qinglai was very surprised, so he immediately contacted China and invited him to work and study in Tsinghua University. At that time, Xiong Qinglai's decision was recognized and supported by many professors in Tsinghua University.
In this way, 22-year-old Hua came to Tsinghua. As he only has a junior high school diploma, he started as an assistant. After work, he often goes to the school library to read some knowledge about mathematics, and even often takes math-related math classes to teach himself English. While working and studying in Tsinghua, he wrote a high-quality paper on number theory. His talent began to be gradually known, and later gradually changed from teaching assistant to teaching assistant or even lecturer.
Although Chengdu is happy, it is better to go home.
At the recommendation of Tsinghua University and the famous British mathematician Hardy, 26-year-old Hua went to Cambridge University for further study. During his study in Cambridge University, he published at least 15 articles, one of which was about Gauss, which caused a great sensation in the mathematics field. This also makes the name Hua widely circulated in mathematics. Later, he also improved the conclusion of Hardy, the chief professor of mathematics, and put forward a new theory, which was also called "Fahrenheit theorem" by the international mathematics community.
At that time, with his grades, he could have applied for a doctorate in Cambridge, but he didn't. Because it took a year to get a doctorate at that time, and I concentrated on doing a problem. Hua thinks he came to Cambridge to study, not to get a degree. Therefore, he has never formally applied for a degree, so that he has always been a junior high school diploma.
Later, when the civil war broke out, he gave up his plan to study in the Soviet Union because he was worried about the development of the country. He packed his luggage and boarded the ship returning to his motherland. After returning to China, he became a professor of mathematics in The National SouthWest Associated University. During this period, he completed his first mathematical masterpiece, The Theory of Heap-based Prime Numbers.
During the war, it also helped China producers to crack the enemy's password. 1946 Hua became a researcher at the invitation of Princeton Institute of Mathematics. Later, he was hired as a tenured professor by the University of Illinois. Later, after the founding of New China, Hua declined to be retained by the University of Illinois in the United States, and resolutely returned to the motherland, contributing his life to the mathematics community in China.
Hua published many works in his life, and even founded the world-famous "China School of Analytic Number Theory". Because his many studies in mathematics had a great influence on the development of mathematics, he was later listed as one of the 88 great mathematicians in Chicago Science and Technology Museum.
From a dropout with only a junior high school diploma to a world-famous mathematician, the hardships he has paid along the way are beyond ordinary people's understanding. With diligence and hard work, he walked out of a legendary life and won great honor for his motherland.
