Chu Yuan's early experience in Chu Yuan came from a film family, and his father, Zhang Huoyou, was a famous Cantonese film actor in Hong Kong. He also entered the film industry. He studied under the famous director Jian Qin and took the route of screenwriter and director. At the age of 25, he directed films independently, and at the age of 26, he became famous with "The End of the Road". In the next few years, Chu Yuan made dozens of Cantonese films, accumulated rich experience in directing, and joined Shaw in 1970s.
When he first entered Shaw Company, Chu Yuan became famous and attracted the attention of his boss Shaw Company. 1973, he broke the box office record with a movie "Seventy-two Tenants", surpassing the limelight of Jiahe Bruce Lee. The significance of "Seventy-two Tenants" is not only a box office success, but also opens another wave of Cantonese movies to a certain extent. Later, Xu Shi brothers' works such as Ghost and Horse, Half a catty and 82 Liang pushed Cantonese films to a peak.
After the highlight of his career, it was the trough. After The Seventy-Two Tenants, most of Chu Yuan's films were not sold, and his boss gradually lost patience with him. In order to reverse the situation, he took a fancy to Gu Long's novel meteor butterfly sword, asked his friend Ni Kuang to help him adapt it, and invited Elliot Ngok, Jing Li, Zong Hua, Lingyun and other actors to star.
In the end, meteor butterfly sword stood out and broke the box office record in Taiwan Province Province. Director Chu Yuan took the opportunity to make a comeback, formed an iron triangle with Gu Long and Tommy Tam, and carried the martial arts film of Gu Long's novel to the end, setting off a craze. At that time, there was even a saying that if you didn't appear in Chu Yuan's films, you wouldn't be a movie actor.
Chu Yuan is not only the director who shoots the most Gu Long novels, but also the best director. His romantic literary temperament is a perfect match with Gu Long's bizarre martial arts novels and Tommy Tam's Shen Yan, which is why there are such classics as Tianya Yueming Knife, Chu Liuxiang and Third Young Master's Sword. After 1980s, with the decline of Shaw Film Company and the growth of age, Chu Yuan began to reduce filming and gradually stepped onto the stage.
In his later years, he let go of the director's attitude of playing supporting roles in the past, put down his own attitude, played some supporting roles in the film, and was willing to play for young directors. These optimistic and open-minded attitudes are admirable. As a director, he broke the box office record and became an actor. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the Academy Award for "Cher", which truly explained the first-line love.
What impressed me the most was his cooperation with Jackie Chan several times, such as Zhu Tao, the villain in Never Give Up, Nina Li Chi's father in Shuanglong Club and Jackie Chan's father in Charlie Hebdo. When I was a child, I thought he was an insignificant supporting role, but who would have thought he was a great director? Not only that, he also participated in many TVB plays. As early as 1983, he was invited to be the consultant of Legend of the Condor Heroes.
In the 1990s, I was addicted to drama. As an "old urchin", I cooperated with Xiaohe Qin in "Killing Zombies with Big Head and Green Clothes", participated in Tathagata in The Journey to the West, played Cheng Feng's father in the series "The Elder Martial Sister Tuo Gun", and even made a guest appearance in "Searching for Qin".
Chu Yuan's life, before and after the stage, not only left many classic works, but also trained many talents, such as Feng Cuifan, Bao Xiao Dong Chengyi and Gu Guanzhong. He is a well-deserved Hong Kong director. Have a nice trip.
