After a long discussion and revision, article 40 of the Code of Ethics for Doctors in China was finally finalized, and a press conference was held in Beijing on June 25, 20 14.

At the meeting, the Code of Ethics for Doctors in China was officially published, calling on doctors to strengthen self-discipline in the industry and carry forward the sincerity of great doctors. "This is a non-mandatory norm, but it can become a doctor's moral appeal and self-discipline." Bai recommended it at the meeting.

Give full play to the main role of doctors

Guide reading

The Guide consists of 40 articles, including basic guides, doctors and patients, doctors and peers, doctors and society, and doctors and enterprises. The first guideline is "adhere to the patient-centered principle and give patients full respect". The Code advocates that doctors should "patiently listen to patients' statements, establish a cooperative doctor-patient relationship with mutual respect", "communicate with patients in a language or way that patients can understand, and try their best to answer patients' questions" and "correctly evaluate patients' medical ability".

With regard to the relationship between doctors and patients, the Code stipulates: "Patients shall not be refused treatment or discriminated against because of their age, gender, marital status, political relationship, race, religious belief, nationality, origin, physical or mental condition, sexual orientation or economic status. Doctors should not regard preoperative informed consent, special examination and treatment as exemption or self-protection measures. Doctors have the autonomy to make technical decisions on the prescription, treatment or referral of patients. When the interests of patients may be damaged and doctors themselves are unable to solve them, they should take the initiative to seek solutions through relevant channels. "

The Code specifically points out that doctors are not allowed to participate in or accept banquets, gifts, travel, study, inspection or other leisure and social activities that affect medical justice, and should declare and explain the public welfare funding, clinical research or academic promotion of enterprises according to regulations. At the same time, it is clearly stipulated that doctors should not conduct research that violates science and ethics because of the funding of pharmaceutical companies, and should not conduct any medical product promotion or academic promotion for personal interests.

Bai believes that the published 40 codes of ethics for doctors are of positive significance. "This is not mandatory, but it can be a guideline for doctors' internal moral demands and self-discipline. I hope that doctors can adopt it in practice. " But he also asked: Can morality alone solve all problems? If the relevant medical reform cannot be implemented as soon as possible, how long can this doctor alone last?

Bai believes that the medical system must provide soil for doctors to practice these guidelines, and large hospitals must be able to satisfy doctors to listen to patients patiently. Otherwise, "the doctor listened to the patient for half an hour according to the ethical standards, so the next problem is not the patient's anxiety at all, but that the next patient will come over and be anxious with the doctor, and even there may be a contradiction between doctors and patients." Therefore, without the support of the system, relying on self-discipline and moral standards is of little use and cannot last long.
