Luo Guangbin and Yang Yiyan, the authors of Red Rock, were arrested by the Kuomintang reactionaries in 1948 and imprisoned in the concentration camp of Chongqing China-US Institute of Special Technical Cooperation. Together with the protagonist in the novel, they have experienced those thrilling struggles.
After the founding of New China, in order to "tell future generations about the struggle here", reportage such as Holy Flowers, Jiang Jie, Radish Head and revolutionary memoirs such as Eternal Life in Fire were written successively.
Then, on the basis of these stories, through processing, refining and artistic generalization, the novel Red Rock was created. From preparation to writing, it took ten years before and after, and more than three million words were written, which was completely reworked three times and reformed five or six times.
