Personal work
"Running Horse" —— Rhapsody in Military Camp by Chen Yaoxing. "Running Horse" is an erhu solo composed by erhu player Chen Yaoxing in 1970s. In this song "Running Horse", the author has a fresh and original conception, which vividly highlights the image of running horse as a relief. Chen Yaoxing successfully demonstrated the life of cavalry guarding the border with his unique and difficult playing skills, and music pioneered the use of erhu to express military themes.
The theme of music is a melody with local color created by the author on the basis of the tones of Mongolian folk songs. The introduction of music is like a March. With the forceful theme of the military songs played by erhu, a battlefield atmosphere of smoke billowing, stormy weather, soldiers fighting and Ma Benteng attacking suddenly came to us, showing the mighty image of the frontier guards riding horses at the beginning. The first theme of the music is impassioned in tone and forceful in rhythm, which shapes the heroic image of border guards with guns and prancing horses. The second lyric theme is the pride of border guards, which expresses their deep feelings of loving the motherland and peace. In the middle of music, the author creatively uses some special playing skills, such as "striking the bow", that is, striking the strings with a bow to imitate the sound of horseshoes; With the "double string fast bow shaking", the dice gradually advance from weak to strong, showing the killing sound of the war horse when charging; The combination of rapid bow-stabbing and gliding sounds is adopted to imitate the whistling sound of saber when killing people, and the audience is brought into the artistic scene of horse neighing, lightning speed, charge and tenacious fighting. At the end of the music, the first theme is reproduced. Finally, the sound of charge is simulated. Finally, the music suddenly slowed down in the screams of war horses, effectively ending the whole song. As if the sword and shadow were drifting away, the heroes "whipped the golden pedal and sang the song of triumph together."
"Running Horse" is the most difficult to play in erhu works, and it can test the player's skills best. The live performance of this song often causes thunderous applause from the audience. Few well-known erhu players have never played this song.
Following "Running Horse", Chen Yaoxing has successively created and adapted a number of new works, including hundreds of erhu solos and concertos such as Northern Shaanxi Lyric, Shadow, Small Scenery in Mountain Village, Good News of Meritorious Service, Chasing, Soaring and Hope. These works were recorded and videotaped by China People's Broadcasting Station, TV Station, local music publishing houses, Chinese record companies and audio-visual companies, and made into special music programs and personal albums for publication. 1983 "Express My Feelings in Northern Shaanxi" won the second prize in the National Instrumental Music Competition, and "Shadow" won the third prize.
