In a state of extreme depression and complete despair, Qu Yuan threw himself into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This year was probably the twenty-first year of King Xiang of Chu Qing (278 BC), and Qu Yuan was about sixty-two.

Qu Yuan is a poet, and only from him did China have a writer famous for his literature. He founded the style of "Chu Ci", which is known as "clothing is a poet, not a generation". The works he left behind are recorded as ***25 according to the History of Han Art and Literature. Although it is doubtful whether some chapters were written by Qu Yuan, it is certain that Qu Yuan's works are in the majority. For example, Li Sao is the most important representative work of Qu Yuan, describing the special things of Chu State.
Qu Yuan's works are full of strong romanticism and local color, such as "writing Chu language, Chu sound, Chu land and Chu famous things", absorbing myths and legends, being passionate, writing more personal feelings and imagination, and making good use of metaphors and exaggerations. In the use of language, Qu Yuan's works break through the format of The Book of Songs, and use virtual auxiliary words such as "xi", "you" and "you only" to enhance the sense of rhythm and music, and often have double tones, antithesis and overlapping words.
