About taking notes-process II
Written in 2020 1 1 30th @ Shanghai.

In the last article about finishing, the preconditions and objectives of finishing have been roughly written. This paper will write down the main process of my own life and the workflow and architecture of knowledge management (not project management! Not time management! )

This article was originally written as the first draft of the note-taking tool, but I really feel that the process and content are confused, and many parts are being adjusted. After nearly a month's efforts, I finally "approached" my actual operation method.

The whole article pays tribute to the book How to Make Smart Notes. I dare not teach fish to swim. I hope that a great god can communicate more when he sees it.

Before continuing to discuss the following note-taking process, I want to clarify two points:

In fact, there are many scenes in life that need to be taken notes. I can roughly divide them into three types:

A. All kinds of notes at work

In my own conference essay, my colleague next door put forward two demands. I just saw a user write on the forum what is wrong with my product and what is worth thinking about. These ideas will enter our work and play a role in all stages of our work; Not only working here, but also various projects will come to an end, and finally they can be filed directly.

B. to-do list

Actually, I really don't want to call this a note. I think its essence is time management after information enters the system, so a better way is to directly assign tasks to a certain time period (do, don't do, when to do; Hmm ~ it's good to cross out the tasks one by one. It should be mentioned that sometimes notes are related to tasks. For example, in order to write this document, there may be a summary provided by a meeting, user feedback provided by B research, and some words said by C business. However, these notes can be "deleted after use" and actually have no value, because the value will eventually be reflected in the document.

Attachment: At present, I think the relationship between time management and knowledge system lies in the superposition and precipitation of diaries.

C. Your own life and thinking

So I finally want to mention the protagonist of this article-many people on the Internet call it a knowledge management system, but I don't think mine is that professional. Basically, I read it recently and thought of it, and I didn't choose the field of reading in particular (after all, I still have some doubts about utilitarian learning).

Different from projects (which often have a starting point and an end point), this is exploratory management, and daily thinking is actually jumping and diverging, so its purpose is to let me record my thoughts and actions, and then I can extract useful things from these thoughts for follow-up when necessary (refer to [[about sorting out (rooms or notes)]]).

The latter part is roughly related to the OKR I ordered for myself every season (this is also related to how to set OKR, which I will talk about next time). So it is very different from a project with a clear purpose. Exploratory knowledge management, when sorting out and writing, often surprises yourself-after all, you never know where your life will go, right?

Of course, the small steps from disassembly to implementation will require the application of time management and project management skills.

Based on the above, this paper discusses the content with low certainty (high exploratory) and high thinking in the left half, and will not discuss "project management" and "task list", two things with relatively clear results and time. There are also many ways to teach you how to manage time online (I recommend two articles by Teacher L: The lowest principles of managing time are all here, and the secret of managing time efficiently is in these three lists). It is not easy for me to describe my own project management with Trello Monday. It's hard to stick to it unless all my work partners are using it. Finally, paper and pen are the best. But fortunately, these are all to release short-term memory and improve efficiency. Finally, it doesn't matter to "delete after use". I really don't need to remember everything, because valuable content will return to my system.

So much nonsense, get to the point.

I think my life and thinking is such a process:

From what I think/learn every day, my inbox, to what I can produce with my own opinions or opinions, and then to what impact I can have on the world.

The impact seems to be great, but in fact, for example, I share it here myself, and hope is also an impact. Why share it? I will write another article to discuss this problem in the future. This article will focus on inbox &; Two parts of insight.

So what notes (or the second brain) need help is actually the process from inbox to insight. After all, the brain can't remember or pay attention to so many things. You know, if you are familiar with psychology, writing it down can help us remember more things better. After referring to various methods (whether content or logic, there is a reference catalogue at last), I finally combine my "life management" with "knowledge management". Below I will write out the process from inbox to insight.

At present, I use bear's paw to do this management. It's good for me:

Not to mention the importance of storage and recording. At present, the input sources of dominant notes are divided into the following two types:

There is so much information in the inbox above, you can start to sort it out.

A. psychological training psychology and thinking mode writing

All these inputs and outputs are comprehensive exercises for my whole mental development, including four parts (thinking, learning, observation and expression), and writing has become one of the important ways for me to get internal and external feedback.

At this time, the important part is to put the daily records and what I have learned into a special note page, which is usually the topic I really want to discuss, such as the escape psychology I mentioned above. At this time, the theme tag can help me read all the contents I have thought about this matter, and the reverse link can help me link to the original notes, review the records of the day and learn. These combine to supplement the context and source (at this time I know ROAM).

B. Life sharing by life type

For example, I really have an obsession with coffee (can you describe it like this? Haha), so I will also write coffee notes and share them in the little red book. This kind of exercise is relatively unnecessary for me, but it is also an important bit that I really want to record in my life. In the long run, these are also considerable accumulations (such as movies seen, cafes visited and hotels stayed), which are still quite scary in retrospect.

There are many whys and whats mentioned above, but there is no mention of how (part of the whole labeling system). The following is more complicated. I will try to explain it to you in a simple way. Or just look at the picture!

To this end, I created a top-level home page to record the whole process. All content has an entrance, and the goal is to follow the clues on the home page to reach every note. Contains the following key tags and indexes:

A. clue tag as a clue

The focus of Tag tag is auxiliary sorting: praise+discovery+ease of use. Bear's advantage is that it is born with such an elastic label system, and the corresponding clues can be directly found in the label entrance on the left. My clue has two applications:

Therefore, the label of each note is:

Principles are important, principles.

In order to manage labels, I have formulated a set of very simple principles: 1) Process labels should be prefixed with "."2) All domain labels should use English nouns (prohibited adjectives). 3) Use the simplest expression to prevent future confusion and increase the convenience and simplicity of management, so that the whole system will not be complicated, which is very helpful for us to judge the relevance, and the granularity is similar when sorting.

B. indexes and databases indexes and databases

I created a book index for the books I read and a tool index for the tools I use. Basically, all the recordable data are in the index, including the books I read, the lessons I took in Coursera, the tourist destinations, the models and concepts I read, the tools I used and so on. And then I can link them to the corresponding notes.

Because when taking the above two kinds of notes, everything has been labeled with the theme scene, and the index here is another convenient entrance. Of course, you can occasionally take the opportunity to recall what books you have read. After all, the link of memory is complicated.

I don't have much obsessive-compulsive disorder in this part for the time being. If there is no special other software to track, or it is necessary to enter the knowledge system, I will open my notes and index myself (after all, migration is also a very annoying thing).

The most amazing thing about these note-taking software is this reverse link function-how the notes are related. Although Bear can't directly visualize the relationship between each note, it is still possible to play other related notes. There are also many resources on the Internet, dedicated to making Bear have some core functions of Roam. At present, I use the script made by this classmate to run the reverse link.

One thing to note is, remember not to replace the page directly with Tag, which is a clue to the subject area. But it still can't replace the exploration of relevance, and the relationship between notes still needs us to actively associate. I also admire this action, because when you insert the page (step on the pit and cry), the memory of your hands and brain will be strengthened again.

I have two findings about habits. When I think I can get a good feedback, things become easier. First of all, I found that I was more confident to form my own opinions. Secondly, as mentioned above, I used to surprise myself now (I actually thought of such a thing and forgot the content of this book).

I said in "The most valuable experience is to experience in reality" that the most important thing is to experience, feel and constantly regain such a positive and effective experience, which will help us gain courage and overcome difficulties bit by bit.

Iteration is a step closer-my goal is to make this system more automated and simplified (I don't think complexity is a good thing), so I don't have to spend energy thinking about how to use it or rely on willpower to form the habit of using it.

Above, I'm still studying. After all, it is a little difficult to meet the requirements of satisfaction-nutrition (beneficial)-enjoyment at the same time, and I am constantly testing myself. I think the key to this whole process may still be feedback.

There is a very important thing here. I usually have a mentality of "not wanting to change" and feel that the current operation is still useful. It takes time to iterate again, and my habits have to be adjusted. Life is already so hard, is it necessary to do this to yourself? Wait, I don't know if I can really overcome it with willpower.

The process in the inbox requires a lot of judgment, and sometimes it falls into a misunderstanding that you remember everything. It is probably a lifelong topic to distinguish relevance from importance (and remember to choose one item with the same granularity).

I discussed this part with my boyfriend before. He said that what he couldn't remember was useless to him, otherwise he would remember (I wonder if he misunderstood him). I have some objections. I think sometimes it's buried in the depths of memory, and you can't think of it with simple associations for the time being, but notes can help you do it.

As a result, it is interesting to find Adler's views on this matter in reading. It is meaningless to remember or not, because in both cases, if you can't relate these memories to the present situation (I think it can also be understood as a scene), it is meaningless.

I think that's why we pay so much attention to putting things in the inbox: 1) It has something to do with what I think, and 2) What I think. Difficult ~ I was very good at reading in high school and college, and I was good at distinguishing the key points of textbooks. I always feel that I have too much to learn after graduation. Everything seems to have many explanations or uses in different scenes or occasions.

Then I thought, maybe this is the purpose of utilitarian learning-you know why you study, you know the goal of your study, then you can implement and realize it more easily and apply what you have learned.

I wrote so much unconsciously. Next, I will talk about the content of notes, the feedback mode of the system, OKR management, and my note-taking process from childhood (at that time, time management and knowledge management could not be distinguished at all). I will talk about why writing and sharing are so important when I have time. If you have anything to say, please discuss it together.

Attached below are some methods I refer to when I do management, as well as very good information, hoping to help you.
