We all know that electron tube speakers will sound more perfect if they are twisted louder. But unfortunately, neither the owner of the small venue, the lead singer of your band, or even your mother or neighbor's aunt are interested in this kind of equipment at all? For them, so are these speakers? Loud? Yes Below, I will share with you the effective methods to control the volume of speakers, hoping to help you!
attenuator
The volume attenuator will play a very important role when you try to reduce the volume of the electron tube speaker. If an attenuator is provided between the speaker output and the speaker box, the attenuator will absorb some output and reduce the volume accordingly.
At present, there are many kinds of attenuators on the market, and most of them also provide some very convenient functions, such as line output of driving effect or subordinate speakers. I use Jim Kelly and Aracom PRX 150-DAG power attenuators.
Jim Kelley's attenuator provides a foot switch that allows you to stimulate the volume during solo, while Aracom attenuator has a great adjustable impedance function. Can you adjust the impedance to 4? Output to 16? The output speaker can be used safely.
Low power loudspeaker
Those small, low-power ones? A lunch box? Fashion speakers have become popular. There are many kinds of this kind of speakers, such as Mesa Boogie mini rectifier, Traynor DarkHorse, 50th anniversary of Marshall 1W series, and Orange Terror series box heads and integrated speakers.
These speakers have many excellent functions, timbre and small size, which are very suitable for quiet performances.
Of course, low-power box heads and integrated speakers are also very good choices in portability and decibel, especially in small touring performances. And I recently found that many guitarists are using this low-volume and low-power speaker on many big stages. I believe this will be the future trend.
Many guitarists find that the sound quality of low-power speakers will be better than other types of speakers after being picked up by microphone and amplified by PA system. Is it sweet? .
Studio guitarist Brian Ray (if you don't know him, Brian Ray once performed with paul mccartney, but his co-artists are a dime a dozen) often uses his signature to divide the box header of 13 BTR 23 and the box header of 2x 12 on the big stage. These devices were inspired by Marshall, but the power of 23 watts kept a small size and still provided a roaring sound.
Of course, you can also choose a box head with a power of 50- 100 watt. The box head between this wattage can provide a larger volume under controllable conditions.
Speaker shielding plate
Joe Bonamassa, a famous American blues rocker, is a guitarist who likes to play loudly. In order to deflect the sound waves emitted by the 4x 12 box and avoid making the audience in the front row feel too noisy, Joe began to block the box speakers with plastic plates. In fact, ClearSonic even introduced an iconic speaker shield JB-4 for him.
Speaker simulator
Alex Lifeson, the guitarist of Rush, has always used excellent electron tube boxes, but he connected the box head to Palmer PDI-03 speaker simulator.
This device allows the electron tube speaker to enter another one? Area? So as to safely reduce the level output from the speaker circuit. PDI-03 can also process line signals and add speaker simulation (a 12? The timbre of the box after the speaker is sealed). Such a device can ensure that you become a person on the stage to the greatest extent? Quiet? , let Andhadhun better control the timbre in PA system.
Power scaling (power scaling)
This excitation technology was developed by London Electric Power Company, and its basic concept is to reduce the voltage of the output stage of the electron tube speaker, which can reduce the volume while maintaining the feeling and timbre of the speaker.
Compared with attenuator, power scaling can be said to be more direct, which directly reduces the volume output of the source. You can ask qualified technicians to install power adjustment tools in the speaker. Of course, if the power is high, you can also mod yourself.
loudspeaker
Using more speakers can help you get louder sound, so fewer speakers can also help reduce your stage volume, but be careful not to exceed the wattage level of the speakers.
For speakers, sensitivity (click to read the secret between speaker wattage and volume) is a very important parameter. For example, if you compare a Tianzhu inherited G 12m green back with a sensitivity of 10096dB, the volume of Tianzhu Vintage 30 will change obviously.
Although we are not talking about how to increase the volume here, it also shows that reducing some dB will make your stage volume easier to control, and low-sensitivity speakers are very effective. (For every 3dB difference in the sensitivity of the speaker, the output sound pressure will double. )
Total volume adjustment
Many guitarists know that the principle of total volume is to reduce the volume by reducing the signal from the front stage to the power supply. Adjusting the main volume switch will reduce your volume, but because most of the timbre output of the speaker comes from the back stage, this process will make you lose some timbre effects.
But this is not a problem. PPI MV (Post-Inverted Master Volume) is a volume control circuit favored by speaker manufacturers, which belongs to the latter stage after speaker inversion. When you adjust the front-stage gain, you will also drive the inverter, and you can get enough front-stage gain even with a small volume.
