I think there are many people like me who will have this kind of confusion: What is "carpe diem" and "living in the moment"? What is the meaning of life/life? Carpe diem is easy to understand. The phrase "live in the present" sounds very simple, free and easy, and pretentious. But if you think about it carefully, it is actually very vague. It can almost wrap yourself up in "who am I, where did I come from and where am I going?" On a philosophical level. As for the meaning of life, changing the world? Or is it to survive? Who knows. (I’m probably an ignorant pig_(:з」∠)_
I used to say that life is short and you should enjoy yourself while you can. Come on! Be happy! It’s pretentious! If you like it, buy it! If you want, Eat when you're tired! Make money when you don't have money! Just do whatever you want to do. It's no big deal. This is called "carpe diem".
However, this kind of thinking can easily lead to a misunderstanding, such as quitting your job to travel and live in seclusion, seeking spiritual purity and becoming a monk. Or the situation may not be so serious, and you may just delay things you don't want to do and be happy first. When the deadline comes, you have to rush to deal with it (I often do this). Although some people travel because they truly love this way of life, and some people really have a Buddhist bond, but more people come from all aspects to escape. Due to the pressure, they suddenly abandoned everything and sought short-term relief - before long, the travelers couldn't stand the dusty journey, and the monks couldn't bear the strict rules and regulations... Is this still called carpe diem and living in the present?
A few days ago? I heard a unique explanation of "carpe diem", which is very interesting and enlightening. Life is fleeting. What is happiness?
< p> ——"Actions are divided into mind actions and action actions. Heart actions are your own actions and thoughts, and actions are the way you behave. Therefore, actions also have the meaning of cultivating the mind and practicing. Happiness is a result. This happiness What is the result? Of course it is not the short-term happiness caused by the sufferings of love, hatred, and hatred. It is a state of great happiness where body and mind are unified, and knowledge and action are unified. As for what is "timely". ? Time is now! We have to do it now. We live in the present, between the past and the future. However, the past has passed and the future has not yet arrived. What is "now" or "now"?
The Tibetan word "bardo" means "interval". According to Buddhism, everything we are experiencing is bardo. There is a very important element in the bardo, which is "uncertainty". We are all born in the world and have not yet died. We are now in the "bardo of existence", completely in a state of uncertainty, not knowing what to do next. What will happen next? A lot of "I think" and "I know" are mostly the same as weather forecasts.
We are always asking: "Is there any?" What's the point? "What's the point of reading? What's the point of living? What's the point of studying Buddhism? When the definition of meaning changes, everything, your attitude towards the world, etc. will also change. This is a very high-level question. When we watch a movie, even if the plot is very moving, we know in our hearts that it is just a movie and we will not get lost in it. We have a correct view of the matter and understand the futility of it. This is the true meaning. Detachment. ——Life is a big movie.
Detachment does not mean that we can still watch it because we know it is a movie. Out of understanding, we will not watch it. Get stuck in. Understanding that the so-called bardo of existence doesn't make much sense doesn't mean you have to become a pessimist. If you have the chance to become a millionaire, why not? You should just do it, give it your all, but always know who you really are and always remember the reality of the situation. At this time, the meaning of doing this has changed for you. Then all kinds of uncertainties in life become interesting. Because you have control over your life.
Note: The idea of ??carpe diem comes from chatting with friends, and the rest comes more from the book I am reading recently, "The World is a Theater" by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, and is not a personal enlightenment. I am still too young and my thoughts are not that profound. This article can only be considered as my reading notes and personal thoughts. Let me encourage you all.
