"Bingdundun" comes from the pen of a Guangzhou designer.
Bing Dundun’s design team comes from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and consists of 14 people. They drew tens of thousands of manuscripts and finally won from nearly 6,000 works. Among Bingdundun's ideas, the ice shell was the first to be identified. It is not only related to ice and snow sports, but also full of a sense of technology and the future.
On August 8, 2018, the global solicitation launch ceremony for the Beijing Winter Olympics was held. The solicitation lasted for 84 days, and 5,816 design proposals were received. In the end, the Winter Olympics mascot "Bingdundun" designed by the design team of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts stood out. In August 2019, the Beijing Winter Olympics Working Leading Group determined the final plan.
"Bingdundun", which combines a sense of the future, the times and speed, is based on the image of our national treasure, the panda, and is inspired by the "Candied Haws". The design inspiration for the colorful energy rings on the face of "Bing Dundun" comes from the "Ice Ribbon" of the National Speed ??Skating Stadium of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the colors represent the five colors of the "five rings". Paired with space-like clothing, it represents the direction of future human exploration.
Design elements
The design team of “Bingdundun” went to the giant panda habitat in Sichuan to investigate the shape and posture of the pandas, and positioned “Bingdundun” as a young panda. Pandas, like panda cubs, stand somewhat pigeon-toed.
There is a heart in Bingdundun’s raised hand. These elements are all expressed in Bingdundun’s image. According to the rules of the International Olympic Organizing Committee, mascots cannot have gender differences, so Bingdundun is gender neutral, does not make any sounds, and only uses body movements to convey information.
