Du (A.D. 503-557), born in the last years of Northern Wei Dynasty, was originally named Du Zhuyuan. Later, due to his outstanding achievements in governing the country, he was named Xin by the Western Wei Dynasty. Born in the cloud (now Datong, Shanxi), he is a Xianbei Hun. Du's "beauty, good riding and shooting" was called "Du Gulang" in the army, and he was a famous soldier in the Western Wei Dynasty. At first, he was jung's priest. After Jung's failure, he switched to Erzhurong, and then went west with Emperor Xiaowu, taking refuge in Yu Wentai and establishing the Western Wei Dynasty. Because of his outstanding military exploits, he was dragged to Zaifu and his reputation spread far and wide. In the third year of Emperor Gong in the Western Wei Dynasty (556), Emperor Gong was forced to meditate at Yu Wenjue, the son of Yu Wentai.
However, it was Du's three unusual daughters who had the greatest influence on the history of China. The eldest daughter was the filial piety queen of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, and seven women married Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, becoming a widowed queen famous for her frugality. The fourth daughter married Li, and her son Ethan became the first emperor of the Tang Dynasty, known as the Emperor Tai Shang. These three daughters injected fresh blood of nomadic people into the pure Han lineage of the rulers of the Central Plains, which made the Tang Dynasty reach the peak of ancient China. The unusual marriage relationship also made Du's reputation as "the first father-in-law of China".
