Liu was born in June 1963. He is from Yangquan, Shanxi. 1985 Liu graduated from the Department of Hydropower Engineering of North China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, joined the work in June of the same year, and later worked as a computer engineer in Shanxi Niangziguan Power Plant.

The main representative works are the trilogy of Supernova Age, Ball Lightning and Three-body, and the short and medium stories The Wandering Earth, Country Teacher, Wen Chao Island, Full-band barrage interference, etc.

Liu's science fiction novel Three-body won the Hugo Award, the World Science Fiction Award, and the most important science fiction special award in China, the Yinhe Award. At the China Science Fiction Conference, there are countless sci-fi fans waiting for his autograph.

Liu believes that the characteristic of science fiction is that when the miracle described in science fiction becomes a reality, it will immediately become unremarkable. In fact, many sci-fi elements around us have become reality.

In Liu's view, the book "Three-body" only brought China's science fiction into the public's field of vision from the fringe. Its success is not the success of China's science fiction circle, or even his personal "success".
