1976 In the summer, in Stobridge, England, two young people named Brian Tatler and Duncan Scott were preparing to form a band. When they heard 15-year-old sean harris playing a Be-Pop-A-Lula, they decided to get in touch with the child. Soon after, they arranged a recording for Harris. The next day in English class, they found Harris and handed him a contract. Harris picked up a pen and signed his name. Another player, Colin Kimberly, is a classmate of Brian Tatler. When he was invited to join the band, the diamond head was born.
The first demo of the band was recorded on 1978. They sent this demo to Jeff Barton of the record company. Jeff was deeply moved after listening to the demo. He quickly arranged several performances and an exclusive interview for the band. Through continuous performances, the band gradually won some fame in the underground music industry, and soon they will become an influential band like AC/DC or Iron Lady.
At the beginning of 1980, the band set up a small record company called Diamong Head Music to release their self-raised records. The first is the single "Spotlight", and the B side of the single is covered by METALLICA later. At that time, the band and Lars Ulrich were very close friends, and Lars often performed with the band all over Britain.
Then they began to record their first official album, just like Led Zeppelin's fourth album, which had no official name and was usually called White Album or Lightning to the Country. At first, only 65,438+0,000 albums were released, and each album had a pure white cover with the signatures of the band members. These records can only be purchased during band performances or by mail order (3.50 pounds each). After the first 65,438+0,000 copies were sold out, the band released another 65,438+0,000 copies, and these 65,438+0,000 envelopes were printed with the title of the song. The songs in this album are classic British New Wave heavy metal works in various capitals, including such famous tracks as Am I Evil, Prince and Suck My Love.
The release of Lightning to the world marks the birth of an era, that is, the new wave of heavy metal movement in Britain, which is as short and gorgeous as fireworks. The punk movement in the late 1970s injected a tonic into the declining rock music full of disco and brisk melody, making rock music once again synonymous with strength and rebellious spirit. Many new bands have appeared in Britain at the same time. They combined punk's rebellious spirit and noisy voice with heavy metal music and created a brand-new heavy metal style. This kind of rude music, deep purple, black Sabbath without Ozzy, and the blue oyster cult, all of which were left behind in the late 1970s, let the fans see the dawn of heavy metals again and the new development direction. These bands include Diamond Head, Saxon, Samson, Iron Lady, DEF LEPPARD, Venom and the Elder Judas Priest, motorhead, and countless short-lived bands. This vigorous heavy metal revival movement has ignited the fire of heavy metals all over the world, and Thrash Metal on the other side of the ocean is the best response! Old bands have also picked up their own sharp weapons, aggravated the distortion and put themselves into new struggles, among which KISS has changed the most. Listen to their erosive tunes full of dance music in 79 and 80 years, and then listen to their classics in 8/kloc-0 and 82 years, and you can imagine what a glorious moment heavy metals were in the early 1980 s.
Back to Diamond Head, their debut album is the most classic of all NWOBHM albums. All the songs have wonderful arrangement and guitar improvisation. Sean harris's guitar is as sharp and precise as a scalpel, while Brian Tatler's voice is as decadent as a bard. If you have listened to this album, you will find that METALLCA, a big metal head in the 1980s, is completely imitating the diamond head, whether it is guitar or singing. It is no exaggeration. Their cover of Am I Evil is basically the same as the original song of Diamond Head! In the words of Geoff Barton, a famous writer of metal magazine, "In the first album of Diamond Head, there are more classic riffs than the first four albums of Black Sabbath combined."
The band's second single is taken from Sweet And Innocent in this white album, and the B-side song of the single is the new song Streets of Gold. 198 1 year, the band released a double-sided single record, which included two new songs. I waited too long and played it loudly. Next, the band brought 12 inch EP record The Diamond Lights, which included four classic tracks, such as It's Electric (another cover song of Metallica) and Diamond Light. 198 1 year, the band finally got rid of the economic difficulties and signed a contract with MCA Records, a big company. They included four new songs in the first album Four Cuts released by MCA. Then the single of Heart of the Night was released, and the B-end song was two live tracks and a 4-minute interview with/kloc-0. Diamond Head performed well at Reading Music Festival, and the live recording was recorded into a series of records by BBC a few years later.
The first album released by Diamond Head in MCA was 1982 (Live ...) at the end of September. This album once again showed people the power of a new wave of heavy metals in Britain. It was released a little late, because the peak of NWOBHM is almost over. However, it is still an excellent heavy metal album. The album cover uses the works of avant-garde artist Rodney Matthews, which is worth collecting. After the release of the album, it quickly climbed to the 24th in the UK album chart, and then the UK 12 Day Tour increased their album sales again, leaving their presence in Birmingham, Manchester and London.
1983' s single "Making Music" was originally the title song of the album of the same name, but unfortunately, Duncan and Colin left the band before the album was released, so the album was renamed Canterbury when it was released. Colin was replaced by Merv Goldsworthy, then Robbie France took over the position of drummer, and the keyboard player Josh Philips Gorse joined in. The album released by this CD had a little problem in printing. Until it was published, the first song of the album kept jumping tickets, which directly affected the sales of the album. However, it finally achieved the 32nd place on the British album list. Singles released with the album include Out of Phase and The Maker of the King.
The band then appeared at the famous Downton Rock Music Festival. /kloc-in October, the band made a small tour to further promote the album. At the same time, Iron Lady and DEF LEPPARD in NWOBHM band have also gained international influence, and the new American forces such as METALLICA and SLAYER, which were formed by Lars Ulrich, a young man who performed with them before, have also spread rapidly to Britain. The music of Diamond Head has become a little too conservative and lacks freshness. At this time, the band manager failed to deal with the financial problems of the band, so that the band had to be dissolved on 1985, and the band members made their own living.
After the first dissolution of Diamond Head, Brian Tatler formed Radio Moscow. This is a very mainstream rock band. In their early performances, they often sang the old songs of Diamond Head. Radio Moscow's first EP album is an unknown record, including four tracks. After Brian left the band, Radio Moscow released his first official album.
At the same time, sean harris and guitarist Robin George formed a notorious band under Geffen Records. 1990, they released the single The Swalk, but it was only released for three weeks in the United States and was cancelled for some reasons. In the same year, the infamous original single "Here We Come" and the first album (with the same name) in the film "Highland" were released. The second song on the album is written by Brian Tatler and sean harris, which indicates that Diamond Head is likely to be reborn.
Sure enough, in the 1990s, five years after the band was dissolved, Diamond Head regrouped again, and the best partners Brian Tatler and sean harris formally came together again, which was undoubtedly great news for those loyal Diamond Head fans (including METALLICA). The first public appearance of Diamond Head after its reorganization was in Birmingham. They performed their old songs Helpless and Am I Evil at METALLICA's concert.
Then Brian and Sean brought drummer Carl willcocks and bassist Eddie Chaos. Although they performed in a small club in the United States, they used a band called Dead reckoning and only sang some new songs, but all concerned fans knew that this was the diamond head, and they came back!
The first record after the band regrouped was EP "Rise" with only two songs. This EP can only be bought at the performance site or at the designated record store. The two songs are the unpublished work "Wild in the Street" written by 1978 and the new song "Can't Control Yourself". After several performances, bassist Eddie was replaced by Pete Valkovic. By this time Brian and Sean had written enough songs, and they were ready to start recording a brand-new album.
The new album Death and Progress 1993 came out, which is a new wave of heavy metals in the new era of Britain. Diamond Head continues to perform music more than ten years ago with the equipment and production in the 1990s, giving people a fresh and smooth feeling, which can be said to be a good album. However, the rock world at this time is Grunge's world, and few fans have noticed this legendary band's new work. Due to lack of sufficient support, Diamond Head once again declared its disintegration.
After the band broke up, their previous live performances with METALLICA and MEGADETH at Milton Keynes Stadium on June 5th, 1993 were collected and released as live album EvilLive. A few years later, the band came together again and released a live album on a hot night. In 2003, Diamond Head recorded an album, but it was not released for some reason. On the contrary, Sanctury Company first released the anthology album, which is quite good because it contains the band's early 7-inch ep works and all the classic tracks. But we still hope that their new album will be released.
