Archaeology of Peking University
The Department of Archeology of Peking University is the first archeology department established in colleges and universities in my country, with a history of 50 years of history. In the 1920s, modern archeology represented by field archeology was introduced into our country. Peking University, which pioneered the trend, established an archeology research laboratory with Mr. Ma Heng as its director in 1922 at the School of Chinese Studies (later renamed the Institute of Liberal Arts), and hired Luo Zhenyu, Pelliot and others as archaeological communication tutors. In 1934, Mr. Ma Heng became the director of the Palace Museum, and Mr. Hu Shi concurrently served as the director of the Archeology Office. In 1946, Peking University returned to Beijing eight years after moving south due to Japan's invasion of China. It established the Ancient Artifacts Collection Room of the Institute of Liberal Arts with Mr. Xiang Da as the director, hired Mr. Liang Siyong and Mr. Pei Wenzhong as tutors, and began to recruit archaeological graduate students.
As a key national discipline in this field, the archeology major has a group of experts and academic leaders who enjoy high prestige in the archaeological community at home and abroad. It has great influence and is known as "the cradle of Chinese archaeologists" and "the center of Chinese archaeological research".
